    1. [OHBELMON] Breakthrough on Berry Family
    2. Jae BROWN
    3. I just received a very nice Christmas present. Today, I received in the mail a copy of the will of Samuel Berry of Belmont County and in it is mentioned my civil war ancestor, Jesse. For the first time I can connect my Jesse Enfield Berry to Samuel Berry, a man I thought was Jesse's father but in the absence of birth certificates and such I could never prove it. You'll find Samuel Berry mentioned as the son of David and Hannah in the Quaker records, but they quit the Quakers before my Jesse was born (there is another Jesse Berry m. to Esther around the same time but that is not my Jesse). Because they disappeared from Quaker records, I could never document Jesse in that family. Then in 1850, he was 20 and was an apprentice stone mason in Barnesville. But this will clarifies a great number of Berry relationships in Belmont County at the time. If you have any relatives such as William H Berry or Thomas Berry you might be interested in this will. This places my family in Ohio in 1820 at least since I know that my Samuel was mentioned in the History of Belmont County. I'll have to check my dates, but probably earlier than that! Anyway, I bought a copy of this will from sampubco.com. He has a list of Ohio wills that he can photocopy online. Jae Berry Brown Marion, IN
