Hi Howard, I see where you are searching MYERS. I am also searching MYERS. My father, Wm. Kenneth MYERS was born in Martins Ferry, Belmont County, Ohio on March 31, 1904. I have his death certificate (died in Wash. DC) and I sent to the vital records in Ohio for his birth certificate, but received my check back and a letter stating that births there are only registered starting December 20th, 1908. They tell me that I may be able to find a record of some kind at the Probate Court of the county were the birth occurred, but they don't say where this Probate Court is located. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. Pat, The Probate Records for Belmont County are located in the Belmont County Courthouse in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Main Street. Vital Records (Births, Deaths, Wills, Estates, and some Naturalizations are located on the second floor, with some Naturalization Records on the third floor. Some Wills and Estates will have to be ordered which could take up to two or three weeks. They are one dollar a sheet to have copied. The Birth and Death Certificates are located in three different places depending on where the person was born. If they were born in or around Bellaire, they are at the Bellaire Health Department on Main Street in Bellaire above the Police Department. If they were born in or around the Martins Ferry area, they are at the Martins Ferry Health Department, I need to check on that address. All other birth records of birth and death are located at the Belmont County Health Department on St. Rt. 331 in St. Clairsville, Ohio, past the Belmont Technical College. I will have to check on the exact hours they are all open. The St. Clairsville Public Library has a Genealogy area located on the second floor and is located on Main St., conveniently across from the Courthouse! The cost of a regular birth or death certificate at the Belmont County Health Department (I would think it is the same at the other two) is $.03 per copy. Certified copies, I would have to get a price on. I am sure it is more expensive at the courthouse. I live within three to five miles of the Belmont County Health Department. If you have several Belmont County births and deaths, you could get them all at one time. You do have to get them out of the drawers and put them back. They make the copies. I take a piece of card stock paper to hold my place and to make it easier to put them back. Also, there is very little room where the files are. There are no tables, no place to sit, a very small area to move around in, and some of the file drawers have to be reached on a step stool if you are short. I have to check on the other two Health Departments to see how they are. I also made a form on which to record the name, date, place to checkmark when found, and a place for notes. You cannot work with a binder because there is no room. I think that just about covers everything I can think of. I will get more exact information and post it next week. These are some of the things I would like to know before making a trip to Belmont County. I hope this helps some of you.
