    3. There didn't have to be a flood to have drownings in the Ohio River. Kids swam in the river regularly. My brother in law grew up in West Wheeling and headed to the river to swim each day when his mother went to work. He heard once that a boy was missing (in the 1940's)and got into a boat and told them where to take him and dove in and found the body as soon as he went into the water.I would venture a guess that there were drownings every year-from swimming and recreational activities.
