Yes, the 1936 flood was the worst recorded.... 55.5 ft. The one page flood edition of the Wheeling News-Register says 'Wheeling Is Isolated'....and has various first person accounts of the flood....the New Years Eve flood, was the next highest, with the water at 51.5 ft. My mother and her parents lived on 'the Island' for the 1936 flood, and after that my grandmother said "no more", and they built a house 'out the Pike', far away from the threat of flooding!
