I just received a very nice Christmas present. Today, I received in the mail a copy of the will of Samuel Berry of Belmont County and in it is mentioned my civil war ancestor, Jesse. For the first time I can connect my Jesse Enfield Berry to Samuel Berry, a man I thought was Jesse's father but in the absence of birth certificates and such I could never prove it. You'll find Samuel Berry mentioned as the son of David and Hannah in the Quaker records, but they quit the Quakers before my Jesse was born (there is another Jesse Berry m. to Esther around the same time but that is not my Jesse). Because they disappeared from Quaker records, I could never document Jesse in that family. Then in 1850, he was 20 and was an apprentice stone mason in Barnesville. But this will clarifies a great number of Berry relationships in Belmont County at the time. If you have any relatives such as William H Berry or Thomas Berry you might be interested in this will. This places my family in Ohio in 1820 at least since I know that my Samuel was mentioned in the History of Belmont County. I'll have to check my dates, but probably earlier than that! Anyway, I bought a copy of this will from sampubco.com. He has a list of Ohio wills that he can photocopy online. Jae Berry Brown Marion, IN
I am looking for any information on Thomas Sinclair who married Margaret Duncan on the 21 of March, 1823, in Belmont Co., Ohio. I am trying to find out who their children and parents were. My G Grandparents was Samuel Francis who married Elizabeth Ann Sinclair in Muskingum Co., Ohio, on 5 Feb. 1846. I am trying to find out if Thomas Sinclair and Margaret Duncan were Elizabeth Ann Sinclair's parents. I thank you for any help. Richard Swank

When I got home, after a bit of searching I got the home address of the church's minister and wrote to her with a small donation to the church, offering some information about the graves in their cemetery and inquiring about a stone company I might use to have the gravestones reset. Plus I wanted to know if they had any information on the graves that, if you recall, I naively used crayon on (Please! I've been sufficiently instructed! eek!) Well, I got a very interesting response. I was astounded and delighted to get a thank you card for the donation signed by members of the congregation. The pastor also called me and said there was no further information on the graves because the records were kept at some point in a private home, which had a fire. However, she did direct me to a 79-year-old member of the congregation who -- I can hardly believe this -- is the descendent of a Berry line I am looking at. Saturday I got a letter from her with an amazing bit of information: Her great grandfather in 1882 bought my gr-gr-grandfather's brother's (Samuel Berry Jr. b 1822) farm and, she says, the house *still exists*. This is especially wonderful to me because my ancestor (Jesse Berry) almost certainly lived on that farm before he went into the army in the civil war (and was killed). Needless to say, I'll be going back to Belmont County! ALSO, Sandra, I know you have John Berry in your line (d about 1829) and according to a court record, one of his sons was named Enoch. My correspondent from the church is descended from Enoch's line. Shot in the dark here, but I was wondering if you or anyone has any idea if John Berry had brothers? I'm wondering if my Samuel Berry Sr. (b ca 1776 or 1786) is brother to John Berry or another Berry (Joseph Berry), seen in Wayne township from 1820 to 1840, could be a brother. I am looking for information on Alfred, son of Samuel Russell of Loudoun, Va and Sarah Moore of Virginia. His father, arrived in Blemont County, Ohio in 1804 due to his early position on slavery and is mentioned in REPRESENTATIVE CITIZENS OF MARION COUNTY, OHIO 1907 HISTORY _http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Marion/History1907/MHR.htm_ (http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Marion/History1907/MHR.htm) However little is known about Alfred who left this earth at the age of 31, in the year 1840. His short life puzzles me and he left young children one of them was my 2GG Grandfather, Otho S. Russell at the age of 8. I am equally puzzled about his spouse, Marguerite [Payne] Russell since she obviously was young [age 30] and could easily remarry which she must of to raise such a young family and she may have moved onto Morrow County, Ohio near Cardington. I would appreciate any shed of evidence this man walked this earth and lived and died in Belmont County, Ohio. Below I have enclosed what I have about him as well as his direct descendents. I am looking for the physical location of the Flushing Burial Ground said land belonging to the Flushing MM [Quakers-Society of Friends]. It is recorded that subject, according to Hinshaw's (Vol. IV, page 548, Flushing MM, Belmont Co., OH), a Samuel Russell was "received on request" 9/21/1854, died 7/12/1878, and was buried in Flushing Burial Ground (Quaker cemetery in Flushing, OH). I am quite certian this is the same Samuel Russell whose date of death and birth date are cited in his grandsons bio [Linneaus J. Russell b.1853 d. aft. 1930] . My questions are: [One], Does this place still exist? Two], Are their gravestones there? [Three], Would anyone be willing to do a cemetery lookup for me and send a photo of the gravestone and whether he has any other family buried near him. [Four] Can someone send me driving directions to this cemetery. Thank you, Robert Russell Sarasota, Florida
