Again, I need help. My e-mail to Helen bounced. I haven't heard from her for a while and want to make sure she is OK. Anyone having her new address? I sent mine to sunnydale and it bounced. Jerilyn
Contact the Belmont County Courthouse. All of the records you are asking about fall under the jurisdiction of the Probate Court. I can't remember off the top of my head whether or not it's called "Orphan's Court" in Ohio, or not. I believe it is called the Guardianship Dockets, but I could be wrong - too much research in PA the last year or so! All of the estate files will also be held by Probate court. Good Luck! I have a question - I have a William or Alexander Davis (depends who you talk to what the proper name was) who was born about 1788 in Maryland married 5 July 1808 Pultney Twp, Belmont Co., Ohio by James K. Kirk. to Susannah Long (no clue who her family was). from what I have pieced together they had 4 children Jacob Davis b -1809 ; George Washington Davis b -1811; John Adams b- 1812 and Jane b- abt 1815. It is said that William or Alexander Davis died around 1816 -- the kids were very young and so would there be papers filed to declare who would take care of them and have guardianship? The widow Susannah remarried in Aug 1818 by John Cunningham in Mickle (?) PA. to Benjamin Williams. Also it was written by a family member William or Alexander was buried in the first burial ground near Pultney, east of William in Belmont County-does anyone have any idea what cemetery this would have been? Thank you in advance for any assistance or suggestions- Lynn
My ggggrandfather William M. CLINE married Nancy NORMAN in Belmont Co, OH in 1838; they had 13 children. I recently saw a Legal Notice in the 5 May 1891 Wheeling Register indicating that the living CLINE children and their husbands (listed by name), and several BROWNs should "protect their interests" in the will of Elizabeth CAMPBELL, wife of deceased Robert J. CAMPBELL. Robert had died in 1887, and his will left everything to his wife (the couple had no children), but specified that upon her death a couple people, including Lizzie CLINE, would receive money. Robert CAMPBELL's obituary indicates his wife's maiden name was NORMAN. This would lead me to believe Elizabeth would be the CLINE children's aunt, and sister to Nancy NORMAN, b 1818. Further support for this is that one of Nancy's sisters (Sarah) married a William BROWN, and some of the BROWNs listed in the Legal Notice have the same name as their children. Also, Elizabeth CAMPBELL's obit indicates she would have been born ca 1815, within an acceptable time for the NORMAN family. Can anyone confirm Elizabeth CAMPBELL IS Nancy NORMAN's sister? I don't have her listed, but it's certainly possible I don't have all the children's names, or Elizabeth is going by a middle name rather than her first name. This is what I have for the family: 1 Henry Norman b: Feb 1781 in Culpepper, Hampshire Co?, VA d: 1854 in Salem Twp, Jefferson Co, OH .. +Ann Knott b: Abt. 1777 in Delaware ..... 2 James Norman ..... 2 Nathaniel Norman ..... 2 Lucinda Norman ..... 2 Rebecca Ann Norman ......... +Joseph Schofield m: 23 Oct 1844 in Belmont Co, OH ..... 2 Sarah Norman b: Abt. 1807 in OH d: Aft. 1880 ......... +William Brown b: 1801 in MD m: 23 Dec 1828 in Belmont Co, OH d: Aft. 1880 ..... 2 William Norman ..... 2 Mary Norman ..... 2 John Norman b: 28 Jul 1811 in OH d: 25 Mar 1881 in Jefferson Co, OH ......... +Catherine Lupher b: 1819 m: 11 Feb 1840 in Tuscarawas Co, OH d: 22 Sep 1887 in Jefferson Co, OH ..... 2 Nancy A. Norman b: Jul 1818 in Belmont Co, OH d: 21 Dec 1890 in Pleasant Ridge, Belmont Co, OH ......... +William M. I am searching for a Benjamin Williams who married a Susanna Davis 5 Aug 1818, Belmont, Ohio. I am thinking this would be a second marriage since she was married to a William or Alexander Davis 5 July 1808 and he died 1816 and it is said he was buried in the first burial ground near Pultney - do not know where or the name if it. Susannah's maiden name was Long. I have not been able to find a death date on Benjamin- I would appreciate absolutely anything on this family. Thank you so much for your time and any assistance- Lynn
I would try to identify the religious "persuasion" of the family and check for church records. I would also check the IGI for clues. Just some suggestions. I have been browsing the photos on the web site, and I can make out the titles on some of the ledgers, such as "Inheritance Tax Record & Journal," "Settlement Accounts, Executors, Administrators," and "Journal - Probate Court." Does anyone know if this means that there are probate cases that are not in the ledgers in the probate court in the courthouse? Also is there any way at this time to access these new records? My ggg-grandparents, Philip & Mary Wise died in Belmont County in 1829 and 1846 respectively, but there are no probate records for them in the courthouse. My congratulations and thanks to the dedicated, hard workers who are doing this project. Neil Elvick Folsom, CA
Sue, Two files online at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ discuss Nancy Powell and mention that she had Quaker parents and that her parents came to Ohio in 1813. Possibly some clues to pursue here. Also, will testators index for Belmont county, Ohio lists a George Powell, no town listed, probate in Vol G-360 [1839-1845]. A George Powel in 1820/1830 Belmont county census resided Wayne Twp. In 1830 he was age 60-70. Abraham Lash's 2nd wife, Jane F. Smith, was sister of my ancestress, Ruth Smith. I have only limited info about the Lash family, but do know that Abraham Lash and wives Nancy and Jane are buried in Farmington Cemetery, Colrain Twp. Looking for anyone who might have information on an Ann WILSON who married Thomas ROGERS in Harrison County in 1826. Thomas must have died young because by 1840, Anna is living next to her brothers in Short Creek Twp in Harrison County. By 1850, Ann is living in Union Twp in Belmont County with some of her children: Jane (Rogers) Hald, John Rogers, and Hugh Rogers. I'd like to learn more about the Wilson family to which Ann is from. I believe her father was James Wilson from Shortcreek Twp in Harrison County. Thanks, Rick Wilson St. Louis, MO _rwilson7@aol.com_ (mailto:rwilson7@aol.com)

My computer seems to have swallowed some correspondence from the author of a book on the McMAKEN family. This took place within the past two years, as I recall. We were discussing the McMAKENs of Belmont County, so I'm hoping he is still subscribed. Thanks for any help! Lorraine lorraineq@juno.com
I looked in the History of Belmont and found another Elizabeth Beam...this one was married to a George Beam, and was living in the area in the mid 1800s...in Richland twp. I looked at the CD of Ohio Marriages, looking for an early Beem/Beam marriage for potential parents for Jacob....no luck, but I did see there are about 12 marriages in the 1800s, for various Jacob Beams...who'd have thunk there'd be that many (none with Elizabeth, though). The only early Wm McMillan marriage Sandra ----- -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.1.409 / Virus Database: 268.15.29/608 - Release Date: 12/29/2006
Seeking information on the McMillin (any spelling) family. BIOS's of the husbands of these two women both state their father as William. Elizabeth (born 6 July 1786) married Jacob Beem/Beam ca 1810 and Nancy (born ca 1789) married Robert Hardesty 5 January 1809. Any help in finding information about these families would be appreciated. Especially interested in Elizabeth's husband, Jacob Beam and his ancestors. Thanks Merry Anne
