    1. Re: [OHBELMON] Henry Starkey, son of Benjamin
    2. Lorraine, I have a Mary E. Starkey marrying Brice Scott. This Mary was born March 1825 in Ohio and died March 26, 1901, in Belmont Co., Ohio. I have her as the daughter of John and Sarah Collins Starkey. I don't know that we will ever straighten them out. I keep pulling pension files when in DC and hope that helps, but so far still can't place my Phoebe, but since George Starkey was the only Starkey that came from PA and the rest came from VA and Phoebe was born in PA I am going to assume she came from George - unless she was a niece or something, but will probably never know. Are you working on any other books yet? Jerilyn ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    1. Re: [OHBELMON] Henry Starkey, son of Benjamin
    2. Jerilyn, Oh, I hope you can put those STARKEY families together! Am also curious about Mary E. STARKEY who was supposedly born in Moundsville, (W) Virginia, in 1817. I'm thinking she was the daughter of John STARKEY and Sarah COLLINS, married in Belmont County in 1815 (I think...it's late and I'm too tired to go look it up). My cousin hasn't responded back when I've asked him to check on Mary's birth place in the subsequent censuses. He is very resistant to letting go of family traditions. So if I have time, I'll look up the census records on Ancestry and see for myself...and let you know. In the meantime, anything you can compile on the STARKEYs in this area, I'd be very grateful if you would share. Hope all is well in your "neck of the woods." Lorraine lorraineq@juno.com P.S. I'm getting discouraged about publishing more books as I haven't seen a royalty check in at least a year and probably closer to two. It's not a lot of income, but it helps. And I'm not sure I'm willing to put all those hours into preparation if at least that much doesn't come back. But I hope they've been of some help to you in your research! 1. [OHBELMON] Henry Starkey, son of Benjamin
    2. I am trying to catch up with piles and piles of notes and tossing and entering and need a couple of things clarified. Benjamin & Sarah Milhoan Starkey had 10 children. They had a Henry born 1823 and died May 19, 1866. I think this is correct. Who did this Henry marry? I have been given several different answers. Also in looking at the children I have Mary Ann Starkey born 1800 as a daughter and that can't be right. Have her as April 27, 1800. I must have hit a wrong key or have her in the wrong place. Please help. I am so far behind with all my correspondence. Right now trying to get through 5 file boxes of Internet notes and letters and just checking to see if I have checked them out so I can get rid of a lot of papers. 1. [OHBELMON] Ruble - Maring
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. The earliest mention I can find of the surname Ruble, in Belmont Co, is a David Ruble, who served a JP....for the year 1802-3. David also appears on the 1810 Belmont Co tax list, and lived in York Twp. The only other Rubles I find, in early Ohio tax records were John and Samuel, who appear in the 1814 tax list of Cuyahoga Co. The only Maring I find in Ohio Early Tax records, is a Philip Maring, is in the 1825 Richland Co tax record. Sandra . I'm also interested in the Ruble family since Hannah RUBLE, b. abt. 1821 in Belmont or Monroe County, married Nicholas MARING in Monroe County Dec. 17, 1845.

    1. [OHBELMON] Evan Philips (1760 -1824 Belmont Co, OH), David Philips Loudoun Co, VA - Belmont Co, OH
    2. David Phillips
    3. I recently participated in the Phillips DNA project mainly to see if I connected to the descendant of the David Philips of Loudoun County, VA and Belmont County, OH as well as any other Phillips’. Not only did I not connect to him I did not connect to any other Phillips’. I felt sure I would connect to this David Phillips as my gggg grandmother (Jane Philips, widow of Evan Philips) who’s Will was probated in Belmont County, OH in the May 1825 term was witnessed by a Thomas White (that Jane Philips called her friend) and a David Philips, Senr. Jane had a son, David Philips (my ggg grandfather); however, per his Bible and census and death records this David did not have a son David thus he would not be a senior (unless his sons were named David but went by their middle name or a David was born and died very young. A David, Jr. is not mentioned the Family Bible.). It also would be unusual, I think, for a beneficiary of a Will to also be a Witness. In any case my question is did the Loudoun and Belmont Counties David Philips have a son named David so that he could have been the Will Witness. If the answer to that is yes, then I can not imagine he was not a relative. Thank you David Phillips

    3. Several years ago, I contacted a woman who lives in Martins Ferry because she and her sister had "read" Riverview and published a book containing their work. I will look for the name and address and post it to this site asap. I do know 100% there is a Sexton Record that was at Martins Ferry City Hall at one time. I have no idea where the Sexton records are housed now. I hope I can find the names. 2. Bonnie Burkhardt
    3. FYI In the current edition of the Ohio Genealogical Society Quarterly (Vol. 47, No. 1, March 2007) is an index on Ohioans in the State of Kansas from the "History of State of Kansas," William G. Cutler, 1883. These are the ones from Belmont and Monroe Counties: Format is Name; Ohio Co./City migrated from; earliest in Kansas; Kansas Co.; pg. # DAVIS, Isaac J.; Monroe; 1871; Jefferson; 508 DAVIS, R. A.; Belmont; 1869; Anderson; 1328 KNIGHT, R. H.; Belmont; Dec. 1880; Allen; 678 Also there is a letter from Alexander Campbell to his son, Alexander dated 10 Nov 1830. There is an indication that this would be for Jefferson Co., Ohio, but I know that there is mention of an Alexander Campbell in Belmont Co. also. It mentions 2 sisters of Alexander Jr.and 2 brothers; Ketren (married to John McCattan?) who named a son Alexander and Mary who married 13 Apr. last to William Collins and that they live in Whilling (Wheeling- sic); Andrew who died on 21 Sep 1830, not married; Gorge (George-sic?) & wife recently had another child...not named. 3. Ruth Ann FRAME/FROME/FROMM married Elisha Phipps NEWLIN, son of James and Sarah Phipps NEWLIN, of Fallowfield, Chester Co, PA. Ruth and Elisha lived in Chester till around 1855, when they and their children emigrated to Belmont County, Ohio. The Newlins were Quakers, although Ruth and children , later, were Presbyterians in Ohio, and I've never found any Quaker ties to the family in Ohio..Elisha died before 1860, and Ruth Ann, in 1900. She is buried in Union Cemetery, in St Clairsville, but I've never found where Elisha was buried.. I know nothing of Ruth Ann's parents, though not for lack of trying! It's always possible that they could have been from Ohio, which would explain why Elisha and Ruth left a farm and mill in PA to move to Belmont Co.. Thus, I'm interested in any Frame/Fromm/Frome living in Belmont or adjacent cos, Ohio, that might have been a parent of Ruth Ann, born in 1818.
