WEll, I found the site with photographs of Ohio Quaker sites, but still am confused. I know of the Short Creek prep. meeting that was an off-shoot of the Concord monthly meeting, but can't seem to determine where it was geographically. I'm familiar with a small area now called Short Creek, but is that where the prep. meeting was? A site I visited seems to indicate that the Short Creek meeting was held in Mt. Pleasant, later to be home to the Yearly meeting. So, does anyone know WHERE the early Short Creek meeting was actually held (ca 1804)? Sandra
There use to be a wonderful site that had photographs of the different meetings and cemeteries, located in Belmont Co.....but, I can't find it anymore---- using google I've tried different combinations but can't seem to locate it and wonder if it's still around and I haven't 'come up' with the right search subject, of if it is not longer online.....anyone have the old URL for this site? Sandra
Sandra, Here is a site to the Land of Bureau Managment to look up Land Patents. When you get to the site at the top of the page under the Heading, click on "Search Land Patents". http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ This site does not cover the thirteen colonies, their territories, and a few other states. Cathy, Sent this to Carol, might as well send to the list with your note. I have a FERRELL who married Mary Josephine BURKHARDT, d/o George and Elizabeth (HUNKLER) Burkhardt. In George's obit, her name was stated as Mrs. Josephine Ferrell and she lived in Newark NJ (1929). They had a son, John William Ferrell who was born in PA in 1905. Info. from the 1910 census of Barnesville, OH when Josephine and son was enumerated with her mother, Elizabeth. Do you have any idea of who Mary Josephine married? As far as I know they were not married in either Belmont Co. or Monroe Co. Josephine's parents moved from Monroe to Belmont Co. between 1900 and 1910. Maybe just her mother, not sure where George was at the time. Does anyone know if the land office records, from Steubenville, (N W Territory) are located somewhere they can be viewed.....I'm interested in those ca April, 1803.
I found that the Gilliland property where my ancestors lived has been closed to the public due to a reclaimed strip-mining operations. This property is located about one and a half miles southeast of Fairview on a brushy hill top. A family member had tried to gather cemetery records back in 1986, but due to the closure of the area he wasn't able to gain access. Can anyone tell me if this area is still closed? Was anyone aware that a cemetery existed before they closed off the area? Also, did they take a reading of whom might have been buried on this property? If the area is still closed, could someone help me find out who owns this property. I would like to write them and see if the cemetery still remains. A lot of history on the Gilliland's and possibilty other families line would benefit to know the answer to these questions. Thank you in advance, Linda Kent Cave Junction, OR

Smith is such a common name, so it's hard to be certain, but I have a Harriet Wise married to a William Smith in 1824 in Belmont County. Harriet Smith's birthdate would fit to have been their daughter. I believe William Smith was descended from a Revolutionary War soldier. Neil E. Folsom, CA
Have come up with additional info on my SMITH line which I hope will help me to turn up some new connections out there. Harriet SMITH b abt 1830 OH and Charles R. WOODS b abt 1820 PA marry abt 1847, and they are in Pease Twp, Belmont Co on the 1850 Census with their 1-y.o. son, Lewis. By 1860 they are in Linn Co, Iowa and their children now include Lewis, Charles, Presilla/Persilla (?) and Dexter. They move to Warren Co, Iowa by the 1870 Census and they have these additional children: Ella, Hittie, Effie and twins, Lenora Fay and Eldora May. Harriet SMITH WOODS is a widow on the 1880 Census - still in Warren Co, Iowa - and the children still with her are Lewis, Dexter, Ella, Effie, Lenora and Eldora. Eldora May WOODS marries Frank G. BAXTER abt. 1893 and they move to Weld Co, CO. Harriet SMITH WOODS is believed to be the sister of my ggrandfa, Samuel B. SMITH, also b Belmont Co, OH, and their parents were Elizabeth CALLAGHAN/CALLAHAN and Joseph SMITH whose other children were Noah, James D., John W., Hester Ann, William, Mary A., Joseph, and a Lucy who may have been a grand-dau rather than a dau. Did this shake loose any more researchers of this SMITH line? Dear researchers, Can anyone give me the exact location of the Sewellsville ME Church Cem. location? I am planning to visit in Aug ,and will be traveling in from Highway 70 coming from Columbus area. 1) I'd like to know the best rout to head into to town from, locate this cemetery and I am hoping someone can tell me if their is an old & new section of this cemetery? I will be looking for William FRIZZELL b.abt 1760-d.abt 1850- with wife Elizabeth Ann Miller b.abt 1772-abt 1818 He is listed as serving in the rev War Rev War , and listed in the cemetery books, but I don't know the exact plot location. I do also expect his headstone may be really smooth, and maybe not even legible. Any help would be appreciated. Warmest Regards, Connie Coy Rice [email protected]
William T. Graham was born January 9, 1834, in Monroe Co., Ohio, moved and married in Wayne Co., Illinois and died in Phillips Co., Kansas in 1912. Does anyone have any idea who his parents might be? I haven't as yet found him on an 1850 census. Any help on this family appreciated. Jerilyn
Hi Jerilyn, I believe the following is William's family. It is my best guess having looked at all the heads of families in the 1850 Monroe Co census: 1850 OH Monroe Co Malaga tsp: Thomas Graham 51 farmer IRE (his age is probably incorrect) Mary Graham 36 VA William Graham 13 OH Sarah Graham 9 OH Elisabeth Graham 3 OH Susan Graham 2 OH Ann Graham 80 IRE IN 1860 OH Monroe Co Malaga Thomas Graham 57 IRE Mary " 47 VA William " 23 OH rest of family The 1880 census info of William and Clarissa Graham, which I think you already have, lists his parents as born in IRE and SC. I believe the SC is incorrect info. I am not researching this family. I hope this is helpful. I am also sending this info to the Monroe Co List because it relates to that county.
