Jill: I found no listing for your Fletcher Stewart King in the Crabapple Cemetery in Cemeteries of Wheeling Township. I did find the following: Abstractions, Belmont Chronicle: Vol. VII pg. 80 21 March 1889 Mrs. SARAH E. KING, wid/of Fletcher of Richland Tp, d at her brother's, H.K. CAMERON In Carroll Co. Good luck in your research. Harriet Herrington
A MUCH better site for locating cemeteries, towns, mountain ranges, rivers, etc is the National Mapping service http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form You can find a local map for the location of Crabapple cemetery by clicking on the Show Feature Location. and then using this in concert with a county map, available from the Courthouse. Do start at the courthouse (get a free county map) and don't miss the genealogical library section of the St. Clairsville Library, directly across the street from the courthouse. The library has a great many local resources, including cemetery books, so you might find the actual directions to Crabtree included in one of them.....they often give their locations. I'd imagine you're speaking of the death indices on line at the Ohio Historical Center's site http://www.ohiohistory.org/ Sandra ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jill" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 15, 2004 12:09 AM Subject: [OHBELMON-L] Belmont research trip help -KING > > I am planning my first research trip to Belmont County, and am hoping someone can help me pinpoint where I should go. > > I am researching Fletcher Stewart King, who died August 30, 1886, aged 31 years, in Richland County (according to death certificate). You may want to consider another given name for the Skinners you mention.....I checked for all these folks in the THE CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF BELMONT COUNTY, by McKelvey, and came up with the following. "Kinsman Skinner was born in 1813, in Calvert Co, Md, and died in Belmont Co, Ohio in 1889. In 1853 he came here and located in the vicinity of Barnesville, engaged in Farming. HE was a member of the Methodist Church. His wife, Isabel Fowler, was born in 1814 in Calvert Co, Md and died in 1883." There is more on their family, but it sure appears that these are the folks that you believe raised the Robinson children.....as Isabell Skinner had been a Folwer before marriage, it is possible that she could have been a sister to Elizabeth Fowler......and, by the way, Isabell named one of her daughter Elizabeth, too......for her sister? The above should give you some hints on where to look (Barnesville), and a religion to consider (Methodist)...and don't forget - Kinsman and not Kinsey (odd that you should have called them kinsmen, and to find his given name WAS Kinsman......). I checked THE STORY OF BARNESVILLE OHIO 1808-1940, by Sheppard, but no mention of your folks, although there were still Skinners there, in the 1920s...just nothing on earlier ones. I am researching the Joseph Robinson/Elizabeth Fowler family. I believe they came from Calvert Co., MD to Belmont Co., OH between 1831 and 1840. Family tradition is that both died young, leaving two children, John W. Robinson, born 1830 and Barbara Jane Robinson (married a Bodain), born 1831. The Robinson children were raised by Kinsey and Isabella Skinner, thought to be kinsmen. Kinsey Skinner married Isabella Fowler in Belmont Co. on 23 Dec. 1837. Joseph and Elizabeth's daughter, Barbara Jane, was living with the Jesse and Dorcas Fowler family by 1860. Are these people familiar to anyone? I believe that Barbara Jane Robinson Bodain is buried at Harmony Cemetery. Can anyone do a lookup for Joseph and Elizabeth Robinson in a cemetery transcription book? I do not know the exact dates of death, but their children are with other family members by 1850. Many thanks, Ruth

Would anyone be able to check for him in their cemetery book. Thanks for any help. Sue

Thanks to Diane for her efficient and quick reply to my post re a "North Cemetery in Barnesville". I now have a death year of 1880 for Nathan MOOREHEAD at Barnesville Euclid Street Cem. Best regards, Sharon
Dear Researchers, I am new to this list and would like to know the present name and location of a "North Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio". I am searching for a headstone or burial info for Nathan MOREHEAD or MOOREHEAD who died aft 1880. Possibly, his wife was named Jane or Martha. Thank you for your time and any help, Sharon
Does anyone know how can I find a burial place and obit for my ancestor: Lois V. Moore b. December 22, 1918 d. September 1, 1992 I believe she died in Wheeling, Belmont Co, or St. Clairsville. She was the daughter of Lora Henry Moore and Virginia Adelle Davis Moore. Thank you, Claudine Harding
Claudine, Since you have an exact death date I would try calling a local library in the location of death and see if they have a research dept that could lookup the obit in their past copies of newspapers. A local library often covers a large county wide area with their newspaper archives. The obit may list the place of burial. Sometimes they do it for free or sometimes there is a small fee. Also, check the OHGENWEB Belmont Co website to see if there is a volunteer who will do lookups for obits. Good luck. From info I've seen, Warnock Cemetery is in Smith Twp. But I believe there might also be a small cemetery in section 10, on a farm, where there are McGaughey family members buried, notably William b. 1774 d. 1834, and his wife Ann Boyd d. 1832. Sometimes the name is spelled McGaughy. Does anyone have any more info on this cemetery, and possibly directions to it? thanks- John John K.
