    1. About HR10 - Provisions restricting our access to birth records
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. This is what the bill is all about - preventing people from obtaining 'official' document copies to use as their doumentation in an attempt to create a new identity.. No one could use a newspaper obituary to prove who they are - that requires notarized copies from courthouses, and THIS is what the bill addresses; NOT simply finding out info on our ancestors in NON-official paperwork. Generally, the way it worked is that someone desiring a new identity, for whatever reason, went to the courthouse and 'went through' the death records, looking for a child who would have been around the same age as they are, if the child had lived.(They didn't pick names from a newspaper obit, for that person HAD an identity, credit cards, drivers license, family members, etc....a dead child HAD no identy, beyond birth and death.) They found a dead child's name and requested an official, notarized copy of that child's birth certificate.... armed with this, they could then get a drivers license, SS card, and the new identity was born. It's now much harder to do this, with multiple pieces of ID necessary, AND the courthouses not handing out notarized copies to just anyone! This, in no way will affect those who simply want the info for their genealogical research -they will still send you the data, just not in the official form. 3. Michigan already has these requiremtns and have had for some time. I wonder if they will restrict what is stated in obits about birth dates? After all, if someone wants to change identity, they pick a person that would have been about the same age as themselves who is deceased. 3. If you'll read the entire bill you'll see that it is, in actuality, only referring to 'official' copies, in an attempt to keep them from being used as proof for a living person, wishing to create a 'new' identity. It i, no way will limit people from seeking the information on their ancestors for their genealogical research, and making NON-OFFICIAL copies. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard Kinkead" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 28, 2004 10:47 PM Subject: *** SPAM *** [OHBELMON-L] Fw: [IABOONE] About HR10 - Provisions restricting our access to birth records > Folks, > > I thought this Boone, IA, message bore repeating. > > However, I fail to see where it pertains to "inspection" of public records, > only copies. > Did I miss something? > Does "access" restrict one from researching died-off lines where there ARE > no descendants? 3. EUREKA!!! I am pretty certain that I have located Benjamin and Ann Pollock in Belmont County in 1860 in Flushing Township. He was working as a Coal Digger. His wife Ann was listed AFTER their oldest daughter in the census, which threw me off, but this is a big find for me, since Ann Norman Pollock is the only sister of my gg grandmother, Margaret Norman Lindsay that I am absolutely certain of. Does anyone have access to cemetery or death records? I cannot find her in 1870, (or Benjamin for that matter). I have found some marriages under the daughters names, Rachel Amy and Mary Jane Pollock, but I believe Thomas may have been deaf, since there is a Thomas Pollock in the School for the Deaf and Dumb in Columbus in 1860, and he is the only one of the correct age in Ohio at that time, (at least that I can find a census listing for) If anyone can help, please let me know!! Have a great Thanksgiving. JWL

    3. I have not asked in a while, so I will shoot this out one more time. I would appreciate any information on the family of Isaac Norman, who lived in Pease Township from about 1800 until after 1850. I would also like any information anyone may have on Joseph Lindsay who lived in Wheeling Township around 1820. I have the census references, but not much more. Specifically, I am looking for the parents of John B. Lindsay and Margaret Norman, who were married in Smithfield Twp. Jefferson County in May, 1840. My G grandfather was their oldest son, and he said many times that he was born "across the Ohio from Wheeling (West) Virginia" in 1842. I do not know for certain who either of these folks parents are, but I would sure like any information out there. Thanks in advance for your help John William Lindsay Accompanying lines are Lindsay, Chaney, Alberson, Johnston, Norman and others.

    3. Mr. Goins, I updated the marriages several months ago and included your marriage submission. I just checked and the file evidently did not override the old file. I fixed that but the link is not working, I have an appointment and have to leave, but will finish it when I return. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I am actually working on updating more recent submissions right now. Thanks again for the "heads up". 1. John MARTIN & Susanna OURIE/UREY 1774-1800s PA>OH and WI>IA
    2. Bill Martin
    3. If you have any interest in the following persons, I'd surely like to correspond with you. I have other data that I'll be glad to share. My primary goal is to learn the parents and sibilings of this John Martin and of this Susanna Ourie/Urey. Any help you can provide will be most welcome. John MARTIN was born ca. 1774 in "Little York" Co., PA; d. ca. 1848, possibly in or near Fallsbury Twp., Licking Co., OH. He was born "...of Irish parents who immigrated in an early day", perhaps about 1740-1770. That characterization in quotes from "Valley of the Upper Maumee" River", is largely correct. They probably were Scots-Irish [Martin family oral tradition] who originated in Scotland and then immigrated to Northern Ireland, then to SE Pennsylvania. John married Susa[nna] OURIE/ UREY/ ULREY/ URY/ ORY ca. 1797. Her family most likely lived in PA, probably in or near York or Lancaster Co. Susanna was born ca. 1776, died ca. 1818, in PA or in Belmont Co., OH. John married Margaret Messencope, daughter of Christopher and Magaretha Messencope on 11 Feb 1819 at Belmont Co., OH. John Martin was recorded in the census in 1820 at York Twp., Belmont Co, OH. He was shown on the Tax Roll in 1825 at Guernsey Co., OH. He was named in a land contract on 30 Dec 1826 at Marietta, Washington, OH. [John may have bought land through the Federal Marietta Land Office.] John was recorded in the census in 1830 at Beaver Twp., Guernsey Co., OH. For some reason, he and Margaret Messencope lived on 15 Oct 1830 at Ohio Co., VA according to court records. John Martin was named in a Deed on 10 May 1831 at Guernsey Co., OH. He was named in a land contract on 23 Jul 1833 at the Federal Land Office, Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, for land in Licking County, Fallsbury Twp., OH, the E 1/2, SE 1/4, Sec 19, T4, R 10. He was named in a land contract on 18 Dec 1833 at Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, for additional land in Fallsbury Twp., the SW 1/4, SE 1/4, Sec 19, T4, R10; and on 15 Jan 1836 at Zanesville, Muskingum, Ohio, additional land for that farm, the NW 1/4, SE 1/4; Sec 19,T4,R10. He appeared on the census of 1840 in the household of Jonathon Martin [one of his eldest sons] at Fallsbury Twp, Licking Co., OH, suggesting that John was physically infirm. From court records, it appears that John may have died around 1847. No death record nor burial site has been found (19 Nov 2004). John and Susanna had nine children born in PA; names and birthdates are known for seven: i. CHILD 1 OF 2 UNNAMED CHILDREN was born between 1797 and 1820. He/she died before 1820. ii. CHILD 2 OF 2 UNNAMED CHILDREN was born between 1797 and 1820. He/she died before 1820. iii. SAMUEL was born on 1 Apr 1799. He was baptized on 30 Aug 1800 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, York Co., PA. He married Susannah Worley, daughter of Thomas M. Worley and Mary Walker, on 15 Aug 1822 at Harrison Co., OH. He died on 5 Feb 1873 at Cadiz Twp., Harrison Co., OH, at age 73. He was buried circa 7 Feb 1873 at Cadiz Union Cemetery, Cadiz Twp., Harrison Co., OH together with his wife Susanna who lived 1800-1884. iv. MARGARET was born circa 1800 at PA. She married John Morrison, son of William Morrison and Malinda SurNmUnk, on 22 Dec 1821 at Harrison Co., OH. She signed her name as "PEGGY MARTIN." She died circa 1836 at probably Noble Co., OH. She was buried circa 1836 at Old Sharonville or Crum Ridge Cem., prob Noble Co., OH. Margaret's children [but not Margaret or her husband John] are listed in the final settlement of John Martin's estate, 3 July 1858 and other proceedings beginning July, 1853. These are recorded in the Partition records, Vol. D, pages 354-361; Vol F; and other volumes of the Licking Co. OH Clerk of Court, Courthouse, Newark, OH. Those court records show the children all living in Noble Co. in 1853. v. SUSANNA was born on 3 Mar 1804 at PA. Her common name was SUSAN MARTIN. She married Thomas S. Dillehay, son of Benjamin Dillehay and Rachel Slater, on 1 Feb 1827 at Guernsey Co., OH. Susanna died on 29 Jun 1874 at Enoch Twp, Noble, Ohio, at age 70.
