I have extensive CW records for the 15th Regiment of the Ohio Veteran Volunteer Infantry including some original hand written mustering out and pay records. These records include history of battles and skirmishes and where deaths occurred. My great, great uncle Jacob Boger from Powhattan was an officer in Company F. Anyone wanting research on specific individuals, please let me know privately Bonnie

Pam, Even though I have not found any of my ancestors in your newspapers, I really appreciate your hard work and sharing. Thanks. Ellen Rowan Taylor -- ERT
It may be time to bring the "spam" remark and its aftermath to a close. I think we're all (or mostly) agreed that when a lister takes her own time to post extracted and genealogically relevant material from historic newspapers that served the county all are doing research in, it is a cause for celebration and giving thanks. The material is interesting, well summarized, and....most importantly for all listers, the posts are marked by relevant subject lines. If you're not interested in reading the Belmont list postings that involve material from the Barnesville, etc., papers--with dates!--then, by all means, delete the email. Another list I subscribe to, that for Blair Co., PA (Altoona area), has featured an outstanding contributor, Annie Whiteman, who has done TONS of extracted posts from the Altoona Mirror and other small papers from the Blair Co. area. Most Blair Co. listers are greatful for the immense time commitment that Annie has made there. The posts are searchable via Rootsweb's archiving system and the attendant search engine. The same will be true of the Belmont Co. posts. My Belmont Co. connections are pretty limited, and quite specific family-wise (Reuben and Nancy GRIMES FARRELL/ FERRELL of Morristown, variously recorded in both Kirkwood and Union Twps. in the mid-1800s). But, I know that there's always a chance that a newspaper extract from the timeframe these folks lived in just MIGHT mention a family member, or an allied line. I suspect that this will prove true for many other Belmont Co. listers. Keep up the good work. David Fletcher Richmond, VA
I'll gladly read anything that might shed some light on what it was like when my ancestors were in Belmont Co., and we really get excited when I find a name I recognize. So keep up the good work. >In 1802, Wm Hodgin and Wm Patten of GA arranged with Jonathan Taylor of Mt Pleasant, Jefferson Co, who lived at one time in Barnesbville, to secure a section of land in Warren twp for each of them, a section being the smallest acreage then subject to entry. They arrived early in 1803 with their families together with Wm's brother Stephen Hodgin and several others., and found the land already bought as previously arranged. Sandra Sandra. Hooray for you, Sandra. I couldn't have said it better (and didn't). Judy -----Original Message----- From: Sandra Ferguson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, January 28, 2005 10:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OHBELMON-L] genealogical data The sharing of information from ANY source - whether reference books or newspapers, is what these lists are all about. They in NO WAY are SPAM. When we send information with genealogical data to individuals rather than everyone, we limit it to just one person - while, if we post it, it will then be available for everyone on the list to use, plus placed in the list archives for others to find and use later. The 'name of the game' is to get the most information to the most people, and generous folks like our fellow list member EBBurcher are to be thanked for taking the time to share their info with us.... I wonder, if you don't believe newspaper obits, marriages, births, area students of another era, etc, are valuable, what on earth DO you feel is worth sharing? Many may be interested in one or more of these items...if you're not, simply delete them.
