Hi, I've been interested in your messages on the Westlake families. There were Westlakes in Union County who married into the Amerine and Reed families there. Have no idea if they are of the same line, or not. Elizabeth Westlake b. 4/3/1826, married Smith Martin Amerine in Union County 7/3/1851. Mercy Westlake, b. 1790, married Andrew Amerine. She died in Union County 5/3/1861, and is buried in the Amerine Cemetery near Marysville, Union County, Ohio. Her father was a George Westlake and her mother was also Mercy. The only daughter of Mercy Westlake and Andrew Amerine, Sidy Ann, married one of my Reed ancestors, Zephaniah Reed (born in Belmont County), in Union County, but died quite young there. This may not be of interest to you, but the Westlake name is one I've heard of for a long time. Doris Reed Forsyth

Mary, Your message came through fine. I am having a problem getting messages from two sources right now: one is [email protected] I keep trying different ideas...., but get nothing -- since about mid-December!! I wonder if the SPAM filters are incorrectly labeling the genealogy lists ??? Many of my lines came through Belmont Co., OHIO before removing to Lucas Co., IA, so I am always watching for tidbits. Hope this reaches you. Will copy a few folks to see if there's additional response. Sad to miss the news/data coming in!!! Good luck, Mary Beth in Wisconsin ps: Techsupport ... HELP .... Thanx ahead of time. I've tried unsubscribing and subscribing, adding to whitelist, emailing techsupport, etc. Running out of ideas.... and now it's Feb. and still problems -- since Dec. I am responding to the Westlake email the other day before the lists went down. Meantime, I have the pension file for Jeremiah Westlake, one of the sons for your Benjamin Westlake. Jeremiah Westlake married Mary A. Conley (Connolly) (nee Richards) in Belmont County Dec. 6, 1871. The Richards family had been in Wheeling for years--Mary was the dau. of James and Mary Huford Richards. Several of her sisters married in the Heskett family, also of Belmont Co. Sarah C. Richards was the second wife of my great-great-grandfather Joseph Richardson. It is from that second marriage that I am researching the Westlakes. Jeremiah's particulars are: According to his pension file he deserted the Co. A 43rd, but later enlisted in Tyler's batt Pa Vols. His wife Mary was originally married to George L. Connelly, in Wheeling, but George was killed in action in New Market, WV--1864--no children from this marriage. Jeremiah and Mary had the following children George L.C.--born Nov. 21, 1872 C. Roy--born Oct 20, 1874 James B.--born Feb. 24, 1876 Arthur V.--May 30 1884 The reason I am so interested in the Westlakes is that last year I received about 40 original portrait photos taken in Wheeling, and several from Bellaire--dated around civil war and later. Only one was positively id'd and that was of Mary Conley, later to become a Westlake. I am working on the identification of the rest of the pictures. My working theory at the moment is that this is a Richards family collection, primarily the sons and dau. that married the Westlake and Heskett families. I think one of them may be a wedding picture of either the Westlake or Heskett couples. I will gladly share all the Westlake stuff I have collected, including the pension file, if you are interested. I looked for these folks in THE CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF BELMONT COUNTY....the only spelling I could find of the surname is Shreve, and there is a great deal of information on the whole family....and, there are several Marthas mentioned , beginning with a Martha Bradshaw married to Charles R. Shreve.....they had several children, beginning in around 1858. You mention 2 Martha Shrieves...are they the same person? if different, how are they related? I'm confused. I'm trying to locate Robin Grimes, who posted a Grimes query back in 2000 at the Belmont Co. website. The last given email address is no longer valid, and I need to touch base with Robin regarding the Robert Grimes family referred to, which included a Nancy Grimes married to a Farrell. I believe this Farrell to be Reuben Thomas Farrell, with the marriage to Nancy Grimes taking place in the early 1840s. David Fletcher Richmond, VA 2nd gr-grandson of Reuben and Nancy Grimes Farrell
