I could find nothing on these two, in THE CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF BELMONT COUNTY OHIO, by McKelvey...nor, is the marriage of Thomas and Margaret included in the Belmont Co courthouse records......sorry. Sandra "Does anyone have information on Thomas Sinclair who married Margaret Duncan, married March 21 1823 in Belmont Co., Ohio. "
Sandra, Thanks for your quick reply. I found the marriage on the Familysearch.org web site. It reference to marriages records 1803-1951, with author as Ohio , Probate Court (Belmont County). The data show Thomas Sinclair and Margaret Duncan marriage date as March 21, 1823 in Belmont, Ohio, We hope to go to the Family History Lib in Salt Lake City next month, so I will check the film then. I have not found out anything else about them, except what I put on the e-mail. This has been a brick wall for everyone for years. Do you have a copy of births in the county on November 26, 1826? This is when Elizabeth Ann Sinclair was born in Ohio. This might give her parents name. Thanks again Richard Swank in So., California. Hi, Does anyone have information on Thomas Sinclair who married Margaret Duncan, married March 21 1823 in Belmont Co., Ohio. I also have him in Richland Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio in 1835. I suspect that they had a daughter Elizabeth Ann Sinclair born 1826, and a son Samuel Sinclair born about 1844 in Ohio. I am looking for proof that Elizabeth and Samuel are the children of Thomas and Margaret Sinclair. I also have Thomas Sinclair (59) and Samuel Sinclair (14) in the 1860, US Census for Cumberland, Spencer Twp, Guernsey Co., Ohio . Elizabeth Ann Sinclair married Samuel Francis in 1846 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. In the 1850 US Census for Muskingum Co., Ohio, Samuel and Elizabeth Francis has a Samuel Sinclair (6) living with them. In 1855 they moved to Adair Co., Mo. Samuel and Elizabeth Ann (Sinclair) Francis are my G-Grandparents. I thank you for any information that you can give me. Richard Swank
Having been through New Matamoras many times, I can tell you that there is an Historical Society there......I'd, personally, call them to see what help/advice they could lend you. Sandra "I think you may mean New Matamoras which is in the NE part of Washington County. The New Matamoras post office address probably covered a wide area. Each township in Washington County would have several cemeteries. There may be someone who can help you in Washington County or you might try to google New Matamoras Washington County Cemeteries."
Do check the times of operation or make arrangements to have someone meet you. They are extremely helpful and I found several things I hadn't ever seen before, but depends on which family you might be searching. Remember every historical society has different items. I need help trying to find information on James Eddy. Obit in paper spells his name EDDIE but it should be EDDY. He died in April of 1892 at the Aetna Mill in a terrible accident. He had one daughter who I believe was named Nannie Bell Eddy and that she married a Frank MERCER. I would love to try and find family members. I am trying to prove that James Eddy was the brother of my great grandfather. Obit states the following: Died Of His Injuries James Eddie, wo was so badly hurt at the Aetna mill yesterday morning by being caught in the pulley died this morning at 2:30 o'clock. he regained consciouness yesterday evening and was able to converse with those about him, although suffering great pain. Word of the accident was sent to his brothers down the river, who arrived here this morning. The remains will be taken to Matamoras tomorrow for interment. Mr. Eddie was a consistent member of the Baptis church, of this city, and was held in high esteem by his fellow workment and all with whom he was acquainted. He leaves a wife and one child about two years old. I would very much like to know what church he belonged to, what cemetery he was buried in, in Matmoras. I would also like to know what newspapers would have been in existance in this time frame. I have that this article was in the Evening Times Friday April 29, 1892. So if he lived in Belmont County, wouldn't there be other papers that would have more information on this accident at the mill? Any and all help more than appreciated. Cindy

In 1803 Andrew Russell married Isabella Sunderland n Belmont Co., Ohio. Does anyone know if this Isabella is the same Mrs. Isabella Russell who married a Daniel Brewer in 1835 and if so, which Daniel Brewer did she marry? Thanks. Hi Jerilyn, I am sorry that I do not have an answer to your question, but I am interested in the Sunderland name. Do you have any more information on Isabella? I have an Ann Sunderland b abt 1797 in MD and married a Wm. Hunt in MD in about 1820. They moved to Belmont county, OH between 1825 and 1830 and are shown as living there at the time of the 1830 and 1840 census. Then in the 1850-1880 census, they are living in Monroe county, OH. Any additional information on the Sunderland line would be appreciated. Hello I wonder if someone who has access to any books on court records for Belmont County could look for a case for me. Spring 1851, F. A. Swan vs. Thomas H. Gerris v. 24, pg 185 and then appearance v. 12, pg 70. Thanks in advance. Bill Dalton

That newspaper is probably on film, at the library in St. Clairsville. You might also want to check what is available on film at the Ohio Historical Society, in Columbus. I believe that their films might be available through interlibrary loan......if memory serves, they have an index of the films they have. http://www.ohiohistory.org/ Sandra " Hoping someone might have access to the Belmont Chronicle for 11 March of 1881 .
