    3. I sent a private message to you- after I found the jokes message-asking you to refrain from posting that type of message to our genealogy list...then found this...so please accept my apology. It is just that if we don't keep our messages on the topic--- "genealogy"--- or related subjects, we may loose our host/sponsor...rootsweb.com and then the mail list will be "no more". Since none of us want that, we have to make sure we stay on topic.. I've been trying to work on the "spam" messages that came through last week...so bear with me as I try to alleviate that problem... 2. Guy T. Bishop
    3. As Ron Jeffers notes in the message to the Belmont list, there is a letter from Belmont to Loudoun on ebay, Dennis family. I'm the owner/seller of the letter, which I bought at a stamp show in northern VA last June. I had meant to inform this list myself, but didn't want to appear to be putting a 'hard-sell' across .... (not to mention that things are crazily busy at work and kids starting school). I would mention that if anyone wants a copy of this letter, they can send a SASE to me, and it would be neat to enclose a couple of stamps to cover copying costs. I have a long time interest in Belmont/Monroe, and this item really caught my eye at the stamp show. One of these days I'll get lucky and find a letter written to or from one of my ancestors. (By the way, my ebay screen name is: smile4me) Thanks, Tom Bishop 205 Walnut Avenue Colonial Heights, VA 23834 Ron Jeffers wrote: > Item #426349268 > > Up for auction is a letter addressed to Mr. William A. 2. --part1_c5.8f71fea.26e78ae5_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Thanks Bonnie. I was pretty sure there wasn't going to be one found. In 1866 Julia Ann (MOWDER) WILLIS applied for a pension after her husband John S. WILLIS died in the Civil War. The officials of the time tried to verify the marriage, but could not, so Julia had to have relatives and friends testify as to the actuality of their marriage. These witnesses testified that Vachel Hall , a minister, performed the ceremony. All this info comes from pension records. I have several names of officials in Belmont Co. and Monroe Co. if anyone would like them listed. Thanks so much, Martha Sargent Martha, I do not find those names in the index for that time period (2 John, wrong years) in Wes Cochran's "Belmont Co., OH Marriages, 1803-1849. I initially looked in Volume 8 of the series of "Genealogical Records in Belmont Co., OH" because of the better info. and documentation, but they were not in that index either. No Mowder in either book. Have you tried http://www.familysearch.org Where did you get the Vachel Hall info. 3. Was rereading CTGS News, Mar/Apr 1996 issue and saw that a book had just been donated to the library - namely "Brown Co. IN Historical & Biographical, 1884". Is there anyone in the group who has frequent access to the library who would be willing to do a lookup for me, please? I would especially like to know if the James COFFLAND (wife Rhoda) family and/or the William BANTA (Eleanor - dau. James & Rhoda)family or Rebecca Starbuck(widow of Jethro) JORDAN (widow of Thomas)(mother of Rhoda Coffland) are mentioned and in what capacity. I really want to find out when they left Belmont Co. and when Rebecca died & where she is buried. Thanks for any help someone is willing to furnish. Eleanor McCain Concord, NH
