    1. [OHBELMON-L] About Ohio Death Index
    2. Pat Cornacchione
    3. I too found a mistake in the Ohio Death Index: the official certificate number of my grandmother's death certificate. I discovered this only because I visited the Ohio Historical Society (Columbus) and printed a copy directly from the microfilm. If I had ordered it by mail with the number, they would have sent me the wrong one. Pat Cleveland

    3. An ancestor lived in Belmont Co. OH, but was killed in a car-train accident near Mannington WV. Anybody know where I would look for his Death Certificate? His name was Alvis Toothman. He died from injuries sustained in the accident. His brother, Ellis C Toothman, lived near Mannington and was killed in the accident. Ellis' young son, Kinsey Lee (10 or 12 yrs) was also killed in the accident. This accident happened in 1915. Anyone know where I would begin to find facts about this accident or death records? I suppose there could be other towns or villages that use the name Wheeling in that area, but you would need someone more knowledgable than myself on that area. It would make a little more sense that you could herd geese through the smaller town than the bustling town of Wheeling, WV.... 2. The Howells
    3. Hello everyone, I have a question I'm hoping someone in Ohio can answer for me. Here in KY you can go down to the Health Department in the county that someone died in and view their death cert., you can't make a copy but you can look it over real good. My question is, is Ohio the same way? My mother-in-law is headed up to Belmont Co. for a family reunion (Repik) and if possible do a little digging in the court house and hopefully the health dept. Thanks, Don Howell Arlington KY

    1. [OHBELMON-L] Mary Clark Toothman
    2. Nancy Albritton
    3. Looking for any information about Mary Clark Toothman, wife of Golden Toothman. She died in 1911 in Jacobsburg, Smith Twp, Belmont Co. I know she and Golden were both born in WV (married in Mononalia Co.) and they moved to OH about 1901. It was their Grandson, Willis, who started the Toothman Funeral Homes. I still need Mary's parent's names and although I know she died in 1911, I don't have a specific date. I know that both she & Golden are buried in Jacobsburg. Any help will be appreciated. 1. Re: [OHBELMON-L] Fw: virus alert
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. All one really needs to know about virus is that they are transmitted through attachments....so, never open an attachment that you aren't expecting, even if from a friend. Twice I have received unexpected emails with attachments, from people I regularly correspond with...but, as I wasn't planning on getting anything from them, before opening, I dropped them an email, asking if they had sent me something,. In both cases, they hadn't, but were unknowingly infected themselves, and equally unknowingly busily infecting others. These things work, at least the ones I've dealt with, by an infected computer sending emails to everyone in it's address book, and when these attachments are opened, they infect the computer receiving it. Thus, if you never open an attachment without knowing what's in it, you'll never get a virus (at least until something "new" comes along.")

Hope this helps. Sharon

    3. Sharon, you might want to try the on line Ohio Death index at http://www.ohiohistory.org choose death index. It covers (with some mistakes and typos...due to scanning of the info) but it should help you with death dates & locations 1912-1937 in Ohio You might want to send me a private message before you order the copies though. 3. By all means, check the info on the Ohio death index, but please don't accept what it says as "gospel".....if you don't find what you're looking for there, do not assume that it is not available at the county level....several of my own family members are NOT listed on this index, but readily found at the courthouses. On another note, does anyone know why there was a large Welsh population in the area?....I remember my grandmother speaking of the many Welsh in Wheeling (this would have been in the late 1800s through the early 1900s), and what wonderful "housekeepers" they were....out early every morning to scrub the stone steps that lead up to the front door. Did they come because of specific occupation? I wondered, as there were many mines in Wales, if they came to work in coal mines?
