The three Groves brothers all moved to Belmont County, Ohio c. 1800. William and Rebecca had at least eleven children, named below. Rebecca died c. 1831. On 15 March 1835 William married again, to Mary Dickison. William died in 1845. Mary survived him. I do not know how long she lived. Three known children: Mary Ann (14 February 1829 - 7 March 1858); Nancy (28 January 1831 - 14 July 1853) and John (17 May 1833 - 10 July 1859). Possible children: Alveny Groves, b.c. 1823; Nathaniel Groves (c. 1826 - 4 October 1862), also buried on the same plot as William and Eleanor; William W. (b.c. 1834). 3) Barnet Groves: Possibly born as early as 1794, or as late as 1803. Married 8 April 1824 to Nancy Fox (2 March 1802 - 20 April 1883). Barnet died before 13 November 1830. Married Samuel Wilson on 28 January 1824. No further info. 8) Rebecca Groves: b. ? Married Anthony Miller in Belmont County on 28 July 1825. No further information. 9) Nancy Groves: Probably b.c. 1809. Married Matthias Stottler. Belmont County marriage records contain an entry of a wedding between Nancy Groves and Matthias Stotler dated 1 January 1812. Either that marriage date is wrong, or Nancy was born much earlier than 1809. Nancy died c. 1872. No known children. 10) Margaret Groves: b.c. 1809. Married 11 April 1822 to Joseph Ball (1801 - 1854). Margaret died c. 1873. Buried at Salem M.E. Church. Married 10 December 1829, at Newcomerstown, Tuscarawas County, to Samuel Miller (8 December 1806 - 1 February 1873). Lavina died 2 August 1777. No known children. I am descended from Sarah Groves by way of her son, John Samuel Major. I would really like to fill in information on the other branches of this family.

    1. [OHBELMON-L] FISHER, JOSEPH
    2. Joseph Fisher was born about 1805 in Ohio. He was married approximately 1832 in perhaps Monroe Co OH as can't find him in any surrounding states and that court house burned. He married Judith Lappin a resident of Belmont Co. OH. In 1838 or so he moved to Morgan Co. Ohio where he was located in 1850 census in Marion Township. In 1852 he sold his land in Morgan Co, stating he was a resident of Washington Co. OH, but in searching both the land records, census records, death records, etc I can find no sign that he had ever been in Washington Co. OH. His children were as followed: John about 1832, Knight about 1833, Elizabeth about 1835, Thomas about 1838, Hannah about 1840, Mary J. about 1842, Rachel about 1844 and Ruth A. about 1847. These birth years are based on the 1850 census. I have no other information on this family other than perhaps son Knight was married in Fulton Co. IL in the 1858, but disappears in the 1870 census. His sister-in-law was in Fulton Co., but I don't seem to find him there. Other sister and brother-in-laws were in Wayne Co., Morgan Co., Belmont Co., and Indiana and Iowa, but no sign of this family near them. Any leads would be appreciated. I have checked deeds this past week in Jackson, Guernsey, Washington, Noble, Morgan and Vinton Co. OH in my search for this family. 2. I vote to have them off the list. I don't know on which list this happened, but I started receiving porno notes and IM messages from creeps and had to change all of my settings to stop it. If a researcher really wants to find out about the line they want, they will subscribe. If they don't their research may not be of value anyway. I am for eliminating any weirdos that we can. 1. [OHBELMON-L] VANDINE/VanDine/VANDYNE/VANDUYNE/VANDINES
    2. Valerie
    3. Hi, I am researching the surname Vandine and all of its variants of spellings. My line originally came from Virginia to Ohio around 1810-1820. I am descended from Charles Wesley Vandine b: 1799 who appears first in Jefferson County, then Perry Co. then Ross Co. He married: 1. Eva Palmer 2. Lucinda Brooks. I believe he is related to the Isaac and Walter Vandine listed in Brooke Co. Virginia/ of course now WV. It looks like Isaac may have been his father. Are the Vandines of Belmont Co. of this line? I suspect they are since most say they are b: Virginia. Any help at all would be appreciated. I have lots from Charles to the present. Vandine and Palmer families seemed to marry quite a bit. Thanks. 1. [OHBELMON-L] Thank you, Belmont County
    2. After spending the Summer roaming Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and six weeks catching up on my work, I would like to thank all those people who helped me so much in making this such a productive trip. In particular, I would like to thank Bill O'Neill, who first told me about my 3g grandparents, Samuel McWilliams and Jane Wilson, and Donna@indian run, without whose help I never would have found Egypt Cemetery where my great great grandparents, John Wiley and Sarah McWilliams, are buried. Unfortunately, their headstones had been destroyed by vandals, but I was able to locate several other members of the McWilliams family. I was also able to locate the graves of Samuel McWilliams (1752-1825) and Jane Wilson McWilliams (1760-1853) and many other members of the McWilliams clan at the Taggart Cemetery near Lafferty. Both stones were still clearly legible. Imagine my shock at finding a brand new stone at Samuel's grave, honoring his Revolutionary War service. I was able to find out that a gentleman from Barnesville was placing new stones on graves of Revolutionary War veterans. What a wonderful generous gesture. I would like to heartily recommend the National Archives in Washington D.C. to anyone who has ancestors who served in any of the 18th or 19th Century Wars. I came away with copies of letters written by three of my ancestors as far back as 1851. Jack Ehmer

I would like to order a copy of my great-grandfather's death certificate. His name is Eugene TANEYHILL and he died April 28, 1941 in Barnesville, Belmont Co. Ohio.
