To Whom it May Concern: I have been trying since 02 February, 2003 to have this information included on the Belmont County, Ohio U.S. GenWeb page. Could someone tell me what it takes to get this listed? Robert Goins Sent: Sunday, February 02, 2003 8:04 PM Subject: "Bel Mar" To whom it may concern, I am writing to record the marriage of my great great great great grandparents, Michael A. Goins and Verlinda Payne Goins circa 1835. This information comes from the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was recorded 17 May, 1835 in Belmont County, Ohio. The table of contents list them on page 86. It is also referenced in my great great great grandfather's obituary in the newspaper The Enterprize circa 1886. Robert Goins

In the 1880 Census of Monroe County, OH VIOLA SHELL is listed as the daughter of George and Margret Shell. She married Daniel Ramsey in 1887. In 1900, 1910, and 1920 Viola and Daniel were listed in Belmont County, OH. I have just received a copy of the will of George Shell. In that he mentions grand daughter Viola Shell. So is Viola the daughter as per the census or the grand as per the will? Hence, my dilemma. Any help on this family would be appreciated. betty
Dear Friends, Thomas Curtis, his wife Fanny (St.Clair) Curtis, and their seven children lived in Goshen Township of Belmont County from 1813 until their deaths. Thomas died early (perhaps from a terminal illness) in the summer of 1827. Fanny was still found on the 1850 Census and I think she died in 1851. Two questions: 1. Can anyone tell me the name of the cemetery where they are buried? 2. Is there a stone on their grave? I'm hoping that someone may have some information for me. Sincerely, George Hoyt Glen Ivy CA

The Centennial History of Belmont Co has only 2 mentions of the name Duncan Morrison... (1) The first meeting of the electors of Union township (1804) was called at the home of Duncan Morrison - after whom Morristown was named. (2) Morristown is located on theNatl Rd, near of the center of Union twp, and was named for Duncan Morristown, of of the first settlers. Hello, Listers: I have a CD of the exact images of the 1890 (June) "Special Schedule US Census, Surviving Soldiers, Sailors, & Marines, & Widows, etc." for Belmont Co OH. For the most part, these are Union military men, but a few Confederates are listed accidently, then marked over; some of these can still be read. I'll be happy to do lookups. The list is broken down by twp: Barnesville, Belmont, Bridgeport, Colerain, Flushing, Goshen, Kirkwood, Martins Ferry, Mead, Pultney/Bellaire, Richland, Smith, Somerset, Union, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wheeling, & York. There is no alphabetical listing of the persons. In order to search for your person, I'd need to know which township to check, and the complete name of the person. The items listed for each person are: name, rank, company, name of regiment or vessel, date of enlistment, date of discharge, length of service, PO address [often blank], disability incurred, and remarks. Pam, I did a geoname search at http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form and it came up with a variant name of Barnesville Lincoln Street Cemetery. I have Powell's book and she does not have any Morris listed. She read and recorded for the most part, only those tombstones of people who were born before 1840, so not all the tombstones are included in this reading. I didn't get an answer for Swazey Chapel in Belmont Co., OH. Is there a listing available of who is buried in this cemetery. According to the family bible pages I have received nearly all of the Morris' in our family are buried there and I would like to be able to confirm this. Is Southern Cemtery in Powell's book by another name? Thanks Pam Klemm
I recently tried emailing Jeanne Garde who submitted the photo on the Belmont county web site of Thomas Roseberry Truax. The email came back as failed, Host Unknown. Would anyone on the list know how I could get in touch with Jeanne? I am researching Roseberrys in Washington County, and there could be a tie as it is such an unusual name. Thank you, Judy Ramsay-Jensen Morrisonville, WI
Sorry, Samuel Francis and Elizabeth Sinclair were married on 6 Feb. 1846, not 1826. Richard Swank Hi, I am looking for any information on Thomas Sinclair and Margaret Duncan who were married on March 21,1823. in Belmont Co., Ohio. I need there parents names, and the name of their children. Is Elizabeth Ann Sinclair b. 1826 their daughter?. She married Samuel Francis in 1846 in Muskingum Co., Ohio. In the 1850 US Census Samuel and Elizabeth Francis has a Samuel Sinclair, 6 years old, living with them, but in 1860 US Census for Spencer Twp., Guerney Co., Ohio, Samuel Francis was living with a Thomas Francis and George Stockwell and his family. On the 1860 US Census for Spencer Twp., Guerney Co., Ohio just above the George Stockwell family that has Thomas and Samuel Sinclair living with them, is a John R. Duncan. Can anyone connect the Francis, Sinclair and Duncan Families? Thank you for your time. Richard Swank in California
