    1. History Sliding Away
    2. CJ Skinner
    3. The Article was in The Times Leader 15 January 2005 History Sliding away Cracks threaten Glencoe Cemetery Mud slips are a problem for many with home being threatened and roads being covered with debris and for some person final resting places. Since the September flooding portion of Glencoe Cemetery has been deterioration, with the ground visibly cracking and shifting as the result of a mud slip. While many are working to try and find a solution to the problem one factor limiting the work is that it is technically a privately owned, non-profit cemetery. "It's the old part of the cemetery on the hillside," said Dave Jerico, one of the members of the Glencoe Cemetery Association. "It's getting worse. We did what people told us to do and we are keeping children away. But there is not much more we can do." According to Jericho, the cemetery association was formed several years ago, with five members who turned to the community. They then raised funds for the cemetery and provide perpetual care for the grave sites. But now, the cost to repair the cemetery is greater then what the association has and there is little help available. "We've been trying to help them and have put them in contact with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency,)" said Richland Township Trustee Gregory Bizzarri. But there is nothing we can do. We can't spend taxpayers money on a private cemetery. Jerico said the association has contacted the Small Business Administration about possibly getting a loan, but because the cemetery doesn't bring in any money he doesn't know who they would pay it back. One thing the association wants to do is put a couple of retaining walls about halfway up the slip from the bottom of the cemetery to help keep the ground from slipping anymore. Another problem could be if any of the graves would have to be exhumed which would require the approval of the family of the person buried. The cemetery association has covered the area with plastic where the ground has cracked to help try and keep more water from getting in and causing more erosion. Although the slip has caused some of the graves markers to fall over. Jerico said that no vaults are exposed. 2. No you did not miss it I did not directly connect it, but...I was hoping since there are some lack of census and other data that maybe one of the family members may have moved to Belmont County at some point...I have run into this with other lines of mine. So is that why you labeled it SPAM, because you did not see a DIRECT link? I am strongly against spam so I would never intentionally send spam to anyone. I found the will of Peter Mick (MEEK, MAUK, MOCK, etc. in Carroll County, OH but everyone was searching in Columbiana County first because that was the direct line that they had heard or had..so by chance I found him in Carroll County. H. son M B 8 yo _____, Margaret dau F B 5 yo _____, Wilbur G. son M B 2 yo I would like to hear from any descendants of this family or others familiar with this family. In 1910 in Martins Ferry during a labor strike, there was an altercation between Sol Edwards (my great uncle) and an Emanuel Robinson resulting in the shooting death of Sol Edwards. During the trial of Emanuel Robinson, his wife, "Anna", and daughter, "Dora", testified. Charges against Emanuel Robinson were dropped. Family lore is that at some point Emanuel Robinson was also shot, but is this true and if so, was this a revenge shooting by one of Sol's brothers? That's still a mystery to our Edwards descendants. I would very much appreciate it if any Robinson descendants would contact me and let me know what information has been passed down to them. If anyone else has information, I would also be interested in hearing that. Thanks so much. Regards, Nancy Edwards [email protected]

    3. Bill asked: >In many IGI birth records, the place of birth is often preceded by the two letters "Of". Can anyone tell me what they mean? Bill O'Neil. Yes, Bill, It means the residence of the person at the time of the event being reported, usually the place of residence of the bride or groom in records of marriages or marriage intentions. It is often mistakenly presumed to mean the place of birth of the individual, but most often it is not. And in New England, at least, it is never used in records of birth. It is often found in deeds and other land transactions to indicate the residences of the principals named in the document at the time of the transaction. Dean Scribner

If anybody can find this information, an outside confirmation would make me feel much better about this information. If somebody could provide me a list of the whole family that was clear to read, I would be very very greatful.

    1. Stringer / Williams
    2. Mike McDonald
    3. Hi everyone, I am new to the list. I am looking for any help or information on two families that lived in the Belmont County, Ohio area. I know that John Williams and his wife Elizabeth (Stringer) Williams lived in the Pease area during the 1850 census. I know that John and Elizabeth married 1/28/1836. They had 8 children and before 1860 they moved to the Marshall County, West Virginia area. Their third child was Elizabeth Williams who was born about 1839 but does not show up in the Marshall County census. Elizabeth was a daughter of John Stringer and Elizabeth (?). From the 1850 census her sister Rebecca had moved in her and her husband. John was born about 1776 in PA and Elizabeth is said to have been born about 1781 in Jefferson County, Ohio. I am wondering if someone either knows something about either family (including Elizabeth Williams) or knows if there is a reliable listing of marriages in the early 1800's for the Belmont area or a complete cemetery listing including who is buried there for the county. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
