Hi Pam, 1856 a law was passed requiring the state to keep records of birth & deaths on the county level. But it was mandatory for the Probate Court to keep these records in 1867. 1850 Federal Census is real good. Have you checked in to the records LDS church has microfilmed at the Courthouse?. Taxes helped me a lot in Athens County.
