My answer maybe, some.. I see Jacob and John Bowser in Salem Township Muskingum Cty in 1810 but there is no record of a deed in the Washington cty Court House. Were the Ohio Company land records kept separate - I wonder If I asked the right questions. I did see Lewis Nye and Ichabod Nye listed as early purchasers of Ohio Company Land - before 1800 - the reference is one of the local history books - we looked at them at the OGS chapter in Marieta - so the anwser is yes. Let us know how you make out. Hal

    1. Athens County History
    2. Larry Gosnell
    3. Need help with early Athens County history. The first record that I can find for my ancestor is the 1820 census information which puts him in Amesville (Ames Twp) Athens County Ohio. Haven't found any record of him owning land there or record of any GOSNEL family living there pryor to him. 1820 census is the only record that he was even there. This census recording was accomplished by Sylvester or maybe Sylvanus AMES. He recorded the information on January 27, 1821 and filed it on March 21, 1821....which seems very strange since it was supposed to be an 1820 census...maybe this was common way back then??? The names that he recorded seem to all be in alphabetical order or atleast alphabetized by the first letter. Unlike most of the census information that I have seen, this one must not have been a house to house recording. I believe Sylvanus AMES was living in the area as early as 1800-1803. Any ideas what would have brought my gggg-gf Nicholas GOSNEL and wife Sarah McINTYRE to the very small township on Amesville in the year 1820 and where is the most likely place that they would have come from.?? How would they have traveled inorder to get there and what was going on history wise in that part of Ohio in 1820?? 1820 census says he was engaged in agriculture. But 1830 they are living in Spencer Twp... Guernsey County, Ohio and after that we don't know what happened to Nickolas. Appreciate any help or advise Larry Gosnell [email protected]

    1. Conner/Collins
    2. I'm looking for the parents of a Calvin Conner, who married a "Maria" Conner in Athens City in 1839. Both were listed as "of this town". Maria's name in later censuses was also listed as Elizabeth. Calvin and Maria were both born in OH, perhaps in Athens Co. Calvin Conner's parents were born in MA, and Calvin's father may have been living in Rome Twp, NE of Athens, in 1840. Calvin's father may have been Natham? Conner. It is also speculated that Calvin's grandfather may have a Daniel Conner. The Collins family listed for Athens City in 1840 is a "R" Collins, and may have been Maria's father. I welcome anybody familiar with any of these people, or interested in speculating how I can find more about them, to please write. I've been kind of stuck on this line. Thanks, Mark

My grandfather JACOB POLLOCK was born Feb 15, 1861, married Aug 11, 1883 and died Jan 3, 1937. He was married to Florence Dowler, born Mar 27, 1859 and died Nov 17, 1938. The only thing that I know on Jacobs parents are the names of JAMES POLLOCK and MANCY MASSIE. None of childred of Jacob could tell me anything about their grandfather and grandmother and at that point I am at a dead end. According to the death certificate of Jacob Pollock, His father James was born in Ohio. I just found out this inforamtion today. I was born in Carbondale, Ohio back in the coal mining days and the hills were filled with my relatives. 1. Dutton Ancestors in America
    2. Curt Rowe
    3. This was probably written after a family reunion held in the 1930's. The most recent date mentioned is 1947. Given the name, it's highly likely the Kingsman Jr. is the son of Kingsman Dutton, but there are some questions. There is a documented marriage between Kingsman Dutton and Ruth Watson on 27 Dec 1756 in New Hampshire, but Ann Routh was still alive at the time. Kingsman and Ann left the Quakers after being married by a priest (minister who was not a Quaker). Ann rejoined in 1748. Perhaps this caused a divorce (in the 1700's!!). Dutton Ancestors in America 1. John Dutton with wife (Mary Darlington) and four children (John Jr. Edward, Thomas and Robert) came to America in 1682 and settled on a 500 acre tract in Ashton Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Delaware Co. is in SE corner of Pennsylvania adjacent to Philadelphia Co. They are believed to have come from England with Wm. Penn. [probably not true] 2. John Dutton Jr. married Elizabeth Kingsman. No other information is available. 3. Kingsman Dutton, son of John Jr. died 1765. Occupation: miller and sawyer. First wife, Anne Routh, married 1737. Children, Francis and David. Second wife, Ruth Watson, married 1756. Child, Kingsman, Jr. 4. Kingsman Dutton, Jr., son of Kingsman, Sr. and Ruth Watson, born 1759 died 1834 or 37, married Mary Craig, 1784. Children, James, Jane, John, Kingsman, Samuel, Craig, Mary and Ruth. Moved from Philadelphia to Frederick Co. Virginia in 1787 or 88 and lived in three or four places there and in Hampshire Co. (Hampshire Co. is in what is now West Virginia) until moving to Wood Co., Va. (now in West Virginia) in 1802 and to Troy Township, Athens Co., Ohio (Hockingport) in 1806. 5. Samuel Dutton, son of Kingsman, Jr. born 1794, died 1883. Married Nancy Brookhart (1800-1861) in 1821. Children, James and Lydia (1824-1868). Lydia married John Palmer. 6. James Brookhart Dutton, 1821-1873. Married Hannah Humphrey (1829-1886) in 1853. Children, Clara Elizabeth (1857-1892), Edwin Augustus (1859-1936), Lucy Irene (1860- 1901). 7. Edwin Augustus Dutton, 1859-1936, married Lethe Rebecca Curtis (1858-1935) in 1884. Children, Herbert Palmer (1887-1947), Walter Curtis(1889-[1962]) and Clarence Edwin (1894-[1968])
