I'm interested if anyone has a copy of the Rome, Troy series of cemetery listings for Athens Co. If so I'm looking for information as follows: In this 5 book series, book 2 has Rome Twp cemeteries listed. I'd be interested if there was any listing for a Nathan Conner,Sr. He probably died between 1820-1840. Do the records go back that far? Nathan Sr's son also lived in Rome, and would have died after 1850. Any other Conner buried near these would also be of interest. And any church affilation would be of great interest. There were other Conner listings of this era. There was a James that lived in Coolville (Book 5), and my ggg grandfather Calvin owned property in Hockingport, in Troy Twp (Books 3&4). As far as Collins goes, the only lead I have is a John Collins, who is listed in the 1830 census. He would have died after that. Thanks for anything you can do for me!! Mark
I am looking for anyone who would have information on the Shinglers from Athens and Vinton County areas. This is not an easy name to research. Absolutely anything would be appreciated.
I am looking for information on Willliam BURT and wife Mary____ who are listed in Lodi Township, Athens County, OH in the 1850 census. Known children are Nancy, Jane, Silas, Joseph, Matthew and Andrew. Silas married Nancy DAINS in 1851 in Athens County. I believe she is the daughter of Calvin DAINS. Silas, Joseph, Matthew and Andrew all moved to Iowa by 1870. I don't know what became of William and Mary or the daughter Nancy. Does anyone have ay inforamtion on this BURT family? Is William a brother to Rev. John BURT of Columbiana County? 1850 census shows his birthplace as PA, but Jane's descendants say he was born in NY. Anyone have an 1860 census of Athens County, OH? Any other BURT or DAINS researchers out there? Thanks for all your time!! Susan Burt Wilson
Appreciate help if you see references to GULLUM family. Frank was professor at Ohio U till 1955; looking for his Vinton County roots from father George Barnhart GULLUM. Thank you.
As a member of First Families I received a booklet from the induction ceremony, this booklet names all the first families and when they were inducted and who compiled the application and also the application number. The applications were put onto microform and are housed in the Ohio University Library in the microforms section on the ground floor. I was reading my booklet just a couple of days ago, as soon as I locate it again I will do lookups for you. Sandra Quinn~volunteer lookup person for Athens County on Ohio Gen Web,

Hi, Some of you my not have seen this Ohio University Archives: Athens Co records http://www.seorf.ohiou.edu./~xx024/ Ohio University: Ohio First Families http://www.seorf.ohiou.edu/~xx024/first.htm Joy Hyde List owner
Hi, I researched the Athens County land records. They start at 1800. You will be able to barrow them from your local Family History Center. Look at their Locality File on the fiche. Go to United States, Ohio, Athens County. Look at that index to see what year you want to order. Use the order number to have them send for the film. Cost about $3.50 takes 2-3 week to get it back They have tax records & many many other types of records. They have microfilmed almost all of the courthouses in the United States. Many books like County Histories. Athens County had one in 1888 I have it on order. It's been 4 weeks. Have you looked at the book list at the Athens County Historical Society & Museum? They have done a lot of cemeteries. The link is on my Athens Co. OHGenWeb site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohgenweg/oh/athens.htm Joy Hyde List owner .You do not have to be a member. They will have these FHC in most medium sized towns. These are the films you would see if you web to Salt Lake City. Need to call and see when they are open.. A couple of quick questions for the list: Does anyone know if there are any cemeteries in the Rome Twp vicinity? That go back to 1820? Does anyone know if there are churches in the Rome Twp area that go back to 1820 and may have records? Does anyone know how to search land records in Athens Co back to 1810,1820? Searching CONNER and COLLINS. Thanks, Mark Rain Joy Hyde wrote: > > Hi Gang, > I found something interesting today. > > OHIO LIBRARIES > > http://www.oplin.lib.us/LIBRARIES/OhioMap/OhioMap.html > > Click on Athen Co to get library addresses and URL's. > > Joy Hyde List Owner > [email protected] > > ==== OHATHENS Mailing List ====

Hi Everyone! I am researching my OLDFIELD families from Ohio, specifically, from MUSKINGUM, HOCKING, FRANKLIN, FAIRFIELD, ATHENS, MARION counties from 1834 to the present. Many of my OLDFIELD ancestors were in the HOCKING CO. area near the park and Old Man's Cave. Dear Joy, I would love any references to the Holdren and/or Leach families in Athens Co.. Specifically, Mathias Holdren and Louvina (or Lavina) Leach. They were married in Athens County on March 22, 1838. I have been unable to find anything on the Leach family and Louvina vanishes off the face of the earth after 1858. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tracee Joy Hyde wrote: > Hi All, > > I have an Athens Co. OH History film by Walker 1886 coming from FHC.
