Don't have any info to share regarding WILSON OR BAKER. Sorry. However excited that someone knew JERSEYVILLE long before Shade. My grandparents, PHILLIPS and BURLEY were from Lodi Twp and some of their children, ( Cora, Wilda, Irene, Gladys and perhaps others) went to school at Jersyville. Do you have any info to share about these families?
Debi, Was this the person whose father was a Professor at Ohio University? Just wondering...I remember seeing a posting for this and telling someone to try the ladies at the Alden Library at OU. I'm sorry the end was tragic, but then again you did find out and it's been my experience that offers some comfort. Dear Listers, I wanted to write and thank those of you who offered information in my search for an adopted child born in Athens, Ohio. I have recently been able to uncover the adoption story of Teresa Lynn Hardy, adopted Teresa Lynn Ransom. I also wanted to give credit to a woman named Cathy Cooper from Ohio University, Office of the President. Without the help of Cathy, I would still be seeking this adopted child. Although our search did not end in a happy reunion, we have been able to provide closure to a family filled with wonder. Teresa Lynn Ransom was shot and killed 15-20 years ago, by her husband, while living in Oregon. Although the ending to our search is indeed a tragic one and we have yet to find all the answers, it does put rest to years of wondering for this family. To those of you who may be searching, never give up and to those of you who offered information, I thank you. Debi Foster Catlettsburg, KY

I just found the following Graham line starting in Athens County and ending up in Logan: 1. John Graham m Rachel (possibly Rachel Sampson m 23 Jun 1823) 2. Henry b 1824 m possibly Martha Gardner 18 Mar 1846 3. Mary Graham m Charles Abner England. I have a bunch of associated Grahams on a piece of paper that may have been written by Mary Graham. Does this fit in with anyone's line? Curt Rowe

Fellow Researchers: I'm brand new to the list. I have reason to believe that the DUNN families from around the Nelsonville, Ohio, Athens County area may be related to my DUNNs. They migrated from Rhode Island. I have just learned that my DUNNs were in the Washington Twp of Brown County in 1840 Census. I am interested in hearing from any of you who may have DUNN relatives in either of these areas. Thank you. PATRICIA TRECKER Researching Irish surnames: DUNN/LUCY/DE LUCY (Possibly Wexford), MORRIN/BRENNAN (Offaly and Kildare), KING/O'TOOLE (Galway), CURRAN/HANNON(Sligo), MARTIN/MERRY, RICE (Offaly, Carlow, Wicklow)
I am looking for information on my GG-father, Thomas J. Carnes, who was born in VA (WV) in November 1829. He married my GG-mother, Mary Elizabeth Shafer, on March 20, 1858 in Athens County. They lived most of their lives in Athens County, although they were living in Ward Township, Hocking County when he died of consumption on December 20, 1872. The 1860 census has them living in Mineral, OH. They had four children: Margaret, Alfred Harvey, Emma, and my grandfather, Charles Ellsworth. Can anyone tell me where the Wolf Cemetery at The Plains, OH, is located. Mary Elizabeth Shafer's mother and father, David Shafer and Margaret Sidders Shafer are listed as being buried there. I could not locate it when I visited The Plains recently. Thanks, Dic R. C. Carnes 2917 Loch Haven Ct. Ijamsville, MD 21754-8813
List members, I have checked the Trimble Cemetery inscription books and my Maxwells are not there. I attempted to purchase the Maxwell Cemetery Inscriptons book from Athens Co. Historical Society. They do not have it any more. Does any one have this book and does any one know if there is a book on cemetery inscriptions for Walnut Grove Cemetery. I do know some of my Maxwells are there. Any assistance would be appreciated. Michelle
Hi. I'm researching my great-grandfather, Hugh Carrel Harris. >From "Portrait and Biographical Record of the Willamette Valley Oregon", 1903: "Nancy W. Hodge married Hugh C. Harris, who was born in Anthens county, Ohio, December 20, 1818, the son of Francis Harris. The Harris family settled early in Delaware county, Ind., and there Hugh C. grew to manhood and engaged in farming." There is a Francis Harris in the 1820 Perry Co. Ohio Census. Could Perry Co. have been part of Athens Co. in 1818? Dot Neff in Portland, OR [email protected]
