SHANE: I am looking for any and all information available on the family of George D. SHANE. He was born in VA in 1809 and married Sarah Ann FORD, (b. July 31,1814 MD d. April 11, 1902 OH) possibly in PA. They had two children born in PA. They were *Hester* (b 1834) and *James Henry* (b.1837 possibly Jefferson Co., PA). They moved to Mohican, Ashland Co., OH in the year of 1837/38 and had five more children. They were,* William Dexter* (b.1838), *Thomas Benton(b 1841), *Samuel Jefferson*, my grandfather, (b.Sept 26, 1844 d. Feb. 18, 1925 Mt. Vernon, Davidson Co., SD), *Nelson*, (b.1848) and *Mary M.* (b.Feb.1850). In the 1850 OH census, I found James H. SHANE living with the Justice WEATHERLY family. He married Emily Weatherly. On the 1880 census, James was married to Elizabeth and had 3 children, and Wm. was married to Ollie PARROTT and had 3 children. Samuel married Elizabeth HARTWELL in IA in 1880 and later on they made their home in Mt. Vernon, Davison Co., SD. I have been told that George left for the CA "Gold Rush" in 1852 and died of "the fever" a couple of months after arriving at his destination. I could certainly use any information on how to find any records of his death. He died without a will in OH, and I have no idea of how to search for information on his death, being he probably was at a gold camp when he died. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I am wondering if any of the SHANE descendents might still be living in the area of Ashland. THANKS........ Sally J. of CO irishsal@cmn.net

Hi Everyone, I am trying to research the following people in Ashland Co. and not having very good luck. Maybe someone will know something about them. My gggrandfather was JOHN GOBEN and he owned land in Ashland Co around 1838. He sold it after he moved his family to Mason Co. IL. John married HANNAH DEWALT the 14 Mar 1843. Hannah was the daughter of HENRY DEWALT. Henry also owned land in Ashland Co. and may have received it from fighting in the War of 1812. I haven't been able to prove that yet so any help would really be appreciated. I also have a FRANCIS SCHOLES from Ashland Co. and he married ELIZABETH DEWALT and after her death he married her sister DELILAH DEWALT. They were also daughters of Henry DeWalt. Francis Scholes may have been the son of John Scholes. Any help on these three men would really be appreciated. Am willing to share information. They all ended up in Mason Co. IL. Thank you, Roberta Summers.
