    3. Lima Times Democrat, Dec 1, 1904 This morning at 7 o'clock a false alarm was sent in from box 53, at the corner of Kibby and Metcalf street, and enroute the department came near having a serious mix-up. A driver of a large heavy coal wagon was told to stop and not attempt to cross Kibby, but he "guessed he knew his business". Without jesting there are a few teamsters and delivery "boys" in Lima that should be placed in a kindergarten and taught a few things as to the right-of-way and which side of the street to drive on. In other cities when a driver takes the wrong side of the street, and an officer sees him, he is shown his place and told to keep it. Last evening, Mrs. Dan BAKER and Mr. and Mrs. Theo. KEPNER chaperoned a jolly party to Elida to celebrate Halloween. The party assembled at the BRESSLER home, and besides other enjoyable features, partook of a supper. In the party were the Misses Ada POWERS, Anna KEPNER, Laura WAGONER, Cora KEPNER and Maitie BAKER, and Messrs. Robert WHITE, Alfred RUTHE, Mat. KO-ER, Chas. CLEVELAND, and Lloyd VAN PELT. Seth ADGATE and Clint STRAWBRIDGE returned Friday evening from a two weeks' trip to St. Louis. Mike ZIMMERMAN is drilling a well on the David E. HOVER farm at Snider's Crossing. The well will be a test for the Amos SNIDER, F.E. CRIDER, Ira CLUM and HOVER farms and will be watched with much interest. Miss Maggie MAYER, who has been ill with typhoid fever for several weeks', is improving nicely. Arden ZURMEHLY, Clint STRAWBRIDGE and Seth ADGATE spent Sunday with Merl La CROIX, of Lima. Charley SMITH is pumping near Beaver Dam. Bert UMBAUGH and wife of Cridersville, spent Sunday with the latter's father, J.A. UMBAUGH and family. The new bridge on the Breese-Yoakam road has been completed and the road opened to travel. Frank PHILLIPS and family spent Sunday with relatives at South Warsaw. Granville E. BEALL, arrived in the city from Oakland, Cal., last evening, being called to Lima on account of the death of his brother, Edgar BEALL, who passed away at the LaBelle Sanatorium last Wednesday morning. The remains of the deceased were viewed in the receiving vault at Woodlawn cemetery this afternoon and were consigned to a final resting place. John BURKE, of Lima, who has been a patient in the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton for the past five months, died yesterday at 10 o'clock, after a long illness from lung trouble. He was unmarried and was aged 32 years. He is survived by one brother Michael BURKE and one sister Miss Hannah BURKE, of this city. The remains were brought here this afternoon at 4 o'clock and taken to the home of the deceased uncle, M. KEARNS, of west Haller street. The funeral services will be held at St. Rose church Saturday morning at 8:30 o'clock. Another day the peth jury reported for duty but found their services without demand. The trial of Wm. McCARTY was set for this morning with evidence to be offered by the state to convict him of malicious destruction of property. McCARTY, however, decided that his chances of escaping were not worth taking and concluded he would get off easier by a plea of guilty to a minor offense. He had his plea of not guilty changed and was instructed to appear tomorrow to receive his sentence. McCARTY is the youth indicted for tearing off some iron screens from a C.H. & D. passenger coach. Continued tomorrow
