Lima Daily News, Mar 20, 1912 John P. McCLURE, son of Samuel and Elizabeth McCLURE was born January 22, 1846 in Bath township, Allen county, Ohio and departed this life March 14, 1912, aged 66 years, 1 month and 21 days. He grew up in Allen county and has lived in this vicinity all his life. He heeded Lincoln's call in the year of '62' and again re-enlisted in '63' in company H 32nd O.V.I. and served until the close of the war. He received two severe wounds, from which he suffered until the time of his death. In the year of 1866, he was united in marriage to Lavina BRENTLINGER and to this union were born five children; two sons and three daughters and he leaves to mourn his demise a loving wife, five children, one sister and one brother, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The children are James L. McCLURE, William O. McCLURE, Mrs. Mary COE, Anna V. ZUBER and Maude E. COON. He leaves the evidence of a well spent life. He united with the Christian union church and lived in faith until the time of his death. He was a kind husband, a loving father and a sincere friend. In all an honest man.
