    3. There may be a Baden in Switzerland, but the most common Baden is in Germany. I found a John Stull in the 1860 census (Ancestry.com), living in Richland (Beaverdam P. O.). He has a slew of kids, but the census taker only listed them by initial. AArgh! However, if you know enough about the family, you should be able to identify them. There is a Wm listed. Here is the list: John Stull 33, B 30, F 9 m, R 8 f, D 7 m, A 5 m, J 3 m, J 2 m, Wm 3/12 m John is from Baden, the wife from Switzerland, the four oldest children born in Switzerland, the rest in Ohio. There was a pleasant surprise for me. The next surname on the list is a Shifferly family, which is a perfect match for a a Shifferly family in my tree. Talk about serendipity. I can now identify which Schwartz sister he married and also assign birth years for the children. The 1875 atlas of Allen County had only given the tantalizing clue that "Mrs. S." ... is one of seven children. It named the children, but did not identify WHICH one (of three girls) she was. Happy hunting!
