I would say he probably came from Baden without parents. I looked in the 1850 Ohio census and didn't find anything. Do you know when and where John died? I found in 1870 what I think were two of the sons along with Barbara's daughter by first marriage living in two other households which makes me think that John, Barbara and maybe some of her other children died between 1860 and 1870.
