There is a great book called "My People Tell This Story" and it deals with the Native Americans who avoided the westward trek. Those who looked white passed for white, and those who were dark skinned passed for Blacks. Many families lived apart (and sometimes the wives had children when they supposedly didn't have a husband).It also tells how to tell a Native tombstone and/or their churches. Anyway its great information, though it deals primarily with central and southern Ohio, Ky and maybe Ind.
