    3. Lima Daily News, Mar 7, 1905 Miss Lyda TAYLOR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. TAYLOR, living three miles northwest of this city, died Monday morning. She was only 17 years of age and had been sick a week from scarlet fever. The funeral was held this morning at 9:30. No services held owing to the contagious disease. The remains of the girl were interred in Dutch Hollw cemetery. Mrs. Lydia HERRING, widow of Penrose HERRING, died at her old homestead, a mile northwest of Allentown, yesterday, at the advanced age of 69 years.She was born in Perry township and had lived on the homestead for fifty years. Her husband preceded her to the grave about 12 years ago. She leaves nine children, a daughter, Mrs. James SPICER, being a resident of Lima. The funeral has been set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Allentown United Brethren church, Rev. SWORDS officiating. The body will be buried in Greenlawn cemetery. Mrs. Marry HARROD, one of the prominent residents of Waynesfield, died at her home yesterday noon, from consumption, aged 55 years. She was the wife of Josiah HARROD, a "fortyniner", who assumed a fortune in the gold fields of California in an early day. She had suffered from the great plague for years and only recently returned from a trip to the sunny climes of Florida, where she was not benefitted. The funeral will be held tomorrow.

    3. It reads to me like "the great plague" was referring to the consumption (tuberculosis) that she died of. I had a Hancock County ancestor who died in 1889 of consumption and who had gone to "sunny climes" (in his case, west) in hopes of a cure. Consumption was a frequent cause of death in those days.
