Phalen, 85, died at 7:30 pm Nov. 18, 2000 at Lima Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 25, 1914 in Dayton to Harley and Mabel Johnston Coon. On Oct. 6, 1971, she married Alfred Phalen, who died July 29, 1999. Mrs. Phalen was a homemaker. Survivors include a brother, Robert (Dolly) Shaw of Saginaw, Mich.; three sisters, Barbara Ruck of Wapakoneta, Donna Sanchez of Lima and Rita Holbrook of Continental and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ambrose Coon, Alfred Coon, Thomas Shaw and Richard Shaw; and three sisters, Thelma Coon, Betty Sterling and Patricia Vickers. Services will begin at 2 pm Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church. The Rev. David Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Chiles & Sons – Laman Funeral Homes, Lewis Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church.
