Phoebe Kirkpatrick,1841. Henry Ellis was s/o Abraham Ellis [1750-1837] & Katharine Joel [1764-1840]. Abraham Ellis was s/o Johan Jacob Allis & Elizabeth Mohr. Johan Jacob Allis emigrated from Europe landing in Philadelphia in 1749. Both Abraham & brother Jacob were members of the PA Militia during the Rev. War. Abraham & Jacob m. the Joel sisters in Lancaster Co., PA about 1780 and moved to the Back Creek valley of Berkeley Co., VA where Henry Joel d. 1779 leaving the sisters his 293 acre plantation. About 1806 Abraham & Katharine sold their interest in the VA plantation to Jacob and moved to Clinton Co., OH where Abraham & Katharine are buried. I am not sure this is the John Ellis you seek (there are severeal), however, this should help you search for the Ellis family. You may be able to obtain a copy of the Ellis Family, by Katharine S. Foos published in 1900 by U.B. Publishing House, Dayton, OH, through interlibrary loan or From the Library of Congress I think I have also seen it available through genealogical book sellers.
