    1. [OHALLEN] John D. Miller family of Lima, OH and Elgin, OR
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. John D. Miller b. 10-9-1824 Wurttemberg, d. 7-29-1902 Perry twsp, (Lima) Allen Co OH. He married Margaret Werner b. 9-6-1821 Wurttemberg, d. 1-21-1905 Perry Twsp (Lima) Allen Co OH. They are buried at St. Paul's Evangelical Cemetery, located at St. John's and Breese Rds. The family story says that John and Margaret, and their daughter Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany, arrived in America in 1853, and first settled in Erie, Erie Co PA, though I have never confirmed this story. I have never found John and Margaret in the 1860, or 1870 census, but I did find their eldest child Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany living in Salem, Columbiana Co OH, as a live in servant. In the 1870 census her brother John D. Miller, Jr b. 1854 PA was living in Youngstown, OH living with his boss's household, he was young and sincle. By 1880 John D. Miller, Sr and wife Margaret are living in Perry Twsp, Lima, OH and John is a Farmer. I have no idea when John arrived in Allen Co OH, but he lived there from at least 1880 to his death. John D. Miller Jr b. 1854 married in Allen Co OH 10-28-1877 to Mary Etta Giberson b. 1856 OH, he father was William M. Giberson of Auglaize Co OH, his father was John Giberson married to Sarah Chiles. John D. Miller Jr's sister Katie Miller b. 1856 PA married John W. Giberson, the son of William Giberson of Auglaize Co OH. John D. Miller Jr's sister Maggie Miller b. 1859 PA or OH, married John Northrup, secondly to George Rice, and thirdly to David Mumaugh. John D. Miller Jr and Mary Etta Giberson had 7 children, and at least one of them was Charles Norvel Miller b. Oct 21, 1885 Lima, OH. I do not know the names of the other 6 children, but by 1900 Mary stated that only 2 of the 7 were still living. Sometime after October 1885, John and Mary and children took the Oregon Trail to La Grande, Union Co OR, and settled in Elgin, Union Co OR. In the 1900 census at Elgin, Union Co OR John D. Miller jr is farming, and his wife Mary and son Charles are with him. I would assume that Charles was the youngest of the 2 remaining children, so they may have a child born from 1878 thru 1884, most likely born in Lima, OH. That child was living separate from them in 1900. Mary Etta Giberson Miller died on August 10, 1905 Union Co OR, her death certificate was #1260. She is probably buried in Elgin, OR. Charles Norvel Miller b. 1885 married first at age 18, that would be approximately 1903, but I do not know the name of the bride, but probably married in Union Co OR. However, by 1910 census he is listed as widowed, so sometime between 1903 and 1910 she died, probably in Union Co, OR. In the 1910 census at North Elgin, OR, John D. Miller, Jr has remarried, to a lady name Edith b. 1883 Iowa, she had previously been marrried to a man named Mr. Accod, also of Iowa, and perhaps he died. She had 2 little sons: Evert Acord b. 1901 Iowa, and Freddie Acord b. 1903 Iowa. John and Edith had a new baby Vivian Miller b. spring of 1910, the baby is listed as a SON. John was working as a watchman at a Saw Mill. Vivian is not the usual name for a male child, but then Marion, Leslie, and Beverly are all Male names used as well, especially in English and Scottish cultures, so either Vivian is a male, or the census taker made a mistake, which is also very common. In the 1910 census at South Elgin, OR Charles Norvel Miller was widowed, and working at a Saw Mill. In the 1920 census at Elgin, OR Charles Norvel Miller has remarried to Alice STEWART, and they have a baby boy named Charles S. Miller born spring of 1920 Oregon. Alice Stewart Miller was born 1885 Nebraska, both her parents were born in Iowa. Charles was farming. In the 1930 census Charles and Alice have moved north to Castle Rock, Cowlitz Co WA and Charles was working there on Railroad Contruction Labor. Their son Charles S. Miller b. 1920 OR was with them, apparently, the only child. We could not find any 1920 or 1930 census for John D. Miller, Jr and second wife Edith, either that moved away, or died? I would love to know more about this Miller line in Oregon and Washington, and if anyone knows more, or is connected, please reply. Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Emily Leach, d/o Charles Leach b. 1897 La Grande, OR, s/o William Edgar Leach b. 1872, s/o Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany, d/o John D. Miller, Sr and Margaret Werner of Lima, OHIO.
