James Augustus Leach b. 2-11-1852 Salem, Columbiana Co OH. His father was Thomas Lupton Bain Leach also born in Salem, OH and his grandfather was James W. Leach b. 1803, who was in Salem, OH at least as early as Fall 1809. James A. Leach was the second generation to live in Salem, OH. He married and raised his family in Salem, OH but as an elderly man he left Salem, to relocate in Lima, Allen Co OH, which was the home of his wife's parents. James A. Leach was a mechanic, a metal worker, and master machinist, as was his father and grandfather. He worked his adult life at Victor Stove Company, Salem, OH. The famous "Franklin Stove" was one of their most popular models. James' job title while there was "stove mounter". In 1870 census James A. Leach was listed with his parents in Salem, OH. He was raised on Depot st, and I believe he also lived there later. In 1870 census in Salem, OH also was listed his future bride, Mary E. Miller b. 2-23-1850 Esslingen, Germany (a suburb of Stuttgardt). She was working a a live in servant for a man named Jacob Weaton, or Heaton, who was a life insurance agent, in Salem, OH. His wife was Elizabeth, and his daughter was Lizzie. Sometime prior to 1872, James and Mary got married. They raised their family in Salem, OH but their first baby was born not far to the West in Paris, Stark Co OH, which makes me believe that Mary went home to her Mother in 1872 to have her first baby. In the 1877 Columbiana Co, OH Directory, James A. Leach is listed as a stove mounter, living on Depot st, Salem, OH. In the 1880 census, Salem, OH James A. Leach 27 b. OH stove mounter Mary M. Leach 29 b. germany Edward W. Leach 8 b. OH Mary E. Leach 7 b. OH James T. Leach 4 b. OH Effie C. Leach 2 b. OH Note: the eldest child is William Edgar Leach b. 1872, my great grandfather. He was actually counted twice in the 1880 census, once at home with his parents, and again with his maternal grandparents in Lima, Allen Co, OH. He was probably both places in the summer of 1880, and just happened to be counted at both locations. Lima OH is about 200 miles due WEST of Salem, OH and James and Mary both lived there prior to dying. They chose that location, because Mary's parents lived and died there, as well as her siblings all lived there, and her daughters had located there. But her children were born and raised in Salem, OH, except for her first child, which I have already explained. I suppose, that it was after James' retirement that they moved to Lima, OH. In the 1910 census at Denora, Washington Co PA James Leach age 57, b. OH, Wrie Drawer in Wire Mill Mary Leach age 60, born Germany, naturalized in 1875, married 35 years, 6 kids, all 6 are living. James A. Leach was a metal worker, as was his father, brothers, and grandfather. James went to Denora, PA as did his brother Isaiah Bain Leach, and they are both living in Denora, PA in 1910 census. I would guess that James worked to age 60, or so, and then moved to Lima, OH. His wife's father died there in 1902, and her mother in 1905. She also had her sister living there, so there was connection to Lima, OH. James A. Leach died first, he died Sept 20, 1922 at 747 Holly st, Lima, Allen Co, OH. That address was his daughter's home. The obit ran in the Lima News dated Sept 21, 1922, it said he had been ill several months. His funeral was conducted by Rev. George of the Second street Methodist Church, and he was buried at Fairmount Cemetery, located on Fairmount rd Lima OH. His death certificate #46162, Vol 3950, Allen Co, OH. Mary E. Miller Leach died Sept 11, 1928, her obit ran in Lima News on Sept 12, 1928, she died at 757 Holly st, Lima, OH and this was said to be her home. Her funeral was conducted by Rev. I. H. Patterson, and she is buried with her husband at Fairmount Cemetery. The children of James and Mary Leach: 1. William Edgar Leach b. Nov 6, 1872 Paris, Stark Co, OH. died Dec 31-1930 Santa Barbara Co, CA. Married Pearl Daphne Mills, 7 kids: Charles, Edna, Ina, Helen, Hazel, Margot, Ralph. Married secondly: Effie Ann Greenlee, widow of Edward Noble Middlebrook, Sr. 2. James Thomas Leach b. 2-13-1875 Salem, OH died 8-27-1945 Cleveland, OH. married Lorena Rebecca Gallaher, kids: Ralph, Fay, John, Jean, Marion, James, 3 boys, 3 girls. 3. Mary Elizabeth Leach b. 12-10-1873 Sale, OH. She married Daniel B. Murphy b. abt 1867 OH, both his parents b. Ireland. They married about 1898. In 1922 they are living at 747 Holly st, Lima, OH. In 1928 they are living at 747 Holy st, Lima, OH. In the 1930 census they are renting at 744 S. Metcalf st, Lima, OH for $20.00 per month. He was a watchman for a Solar Refinery. 4. Helen M. Leach b. about 1884 Salem, OH. She married Charles L. McKinney b. about 1874 PA, both parents b. PA. In the 1920 census they are living at denora, Washington Co PA, he is Assistant Foreman at the Wire Mill, living on Walnut st. . This would be the same Wire Mill that Helen's father James A. Leach worked at in the 1910 census at the same location. In the 1922 obit of Helen's father, she is listed as Mrs. Charles McKinney of Denora, PA. In the 1928 census of Helen's mother, she is listed as Miss Helen McKinney at 757 Holly st, Lima, OH. Apparently, Charles L. Kinney died between Sept 1922 and Sept 1928, and Helen then moved back to Lima, to be near relatives. In the 1930 census, Helen is listed at 744 S. Metcalf st, Lima, OH living with her sister Mary and her husband Daniel B. Murphy. Helen Leach and Charles L. McKinney had these kids: 1. William R. McKinney b. 1908 PA 2. Charles L. McKinney, Jr b. 1911 PA 3. Helen Ruth McKinney b. 1914 PA 4. Eugene J. McKinney b. 1920 PA 5. Effie Catherine Leach b. 3-21-1878 Salem, OH. She either married Frank Coleman of Lorain, Lorain Co OH (west of Cleveland), or she married Benjamin Lehman of Waynesfield, Auglaize Co OH (south of Lima OH) In the 1922 obit of James A. Leach, 2 of his daughters are listed as: Mrs. Frank Coleman of Lorain, OH, and Mrs. Benjamin Lehman of Augalize Co OH. In the 1928 obit of Mary Leach, 2 of her daughters are listed as : Mrs. Frank Coleman of Lorian, OH and Mrs. Benjamin Lehman of Waynesfield, OH. Int he 1930 census at Black twsp, Lorain Co OH, there is Frank Coleman age 69, he is widowed, and he was born in OH, both his parents were born in Ireland. He has his widowed sister in law, Abbie W. Williams age 79, living with him, she is born OH and her parents were born in MA. It is not clear which Leach sister married Frank Coleman and which married Benjamin Lehman. 6. Daughter Leach, I do not have a first name, nor birth date for her, but she was either married to Benjamin Lehman of Waynesfield, Auglaize Co OH or she was married to Frank Coleman of Lorain, Lorian Co OH. In the 1928 obit of Mary Miller Leach, it states she left 29 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. I would like to find more information about Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. McKinney, and Mrs. Lehman. Lilly Martin, d/o Emily Leach, d/o Charles, s/o William, s/o James, s/o Thomas, s/o James W. Leach b. 1802.
Please provide given names and whatever dates you have for the 3 you wish info on and what kind of info you are seeking. This is too confusing for most people to figure out what you need. Thanks.
