    3. Dear Lilly My maiden name was Miller and I have had quite a time in finding anything on my father's family. My father died when I was young and so what I have was given to my sister by our gandfather who was lived until just before his 97th birthday in 1973. The problem is he only ever kept in contact with only his youngest sister Mary-Margaret (Molly) and that was it, so what I have is from his memory. This what I have and thought maybe you could help. My Albert Charles Miller born Aug 1876 in Wapakoneta, Auglaize County,Ohio. His parent were Frank E. & Ida (Day) Miller. All I have one them is their marriage date of Feb 29, 1876 in St Marys, Auglaize Co., Oh. According to my grandpa, Frank's father was John Miller born in Bovakia, Germany and he understoond that the orginal spelling was Mueller. Did not remember his grandmother's but she was born in Germany. John and his wife had 7 children with William and Frank being the 2 oldest. The other siblings he names were Jake,John, Mary, Lou, & Kate. William married and had at least 6 children Frank (my ggrandfather) died sometime around 1889 or 90 when Molly was 3 years old. Frank & Ida had a total of 6 children Albert, Edaith who I beleive died at age 2, Gilbert, Clarence, Ferdinand and Molly. Jake Married John never married Mary married and was said to have lived in Toledo, Ohio Lou never married Kate married and was said to have lived in MIchigan this is my biggest brick wall in my entire genealogy history on both my side and my husband's side and with the entire family now gone it is even harder. My portion of the Miller family name stopped with myself and 3 sisters. I have gotten birth records on some of my grandfather's siblings with the exception of my grandfather and Aunt Molly. They both always said they were born in Wapakoneta but the only records I have found are on the other 4. With Allen and Auglaize being next to each other they may have been in Allen County. I am hoping someone can help Marilyn Bartenslager Greenville, Ky >From: "Lilly Martin" <malik@scs-net.org> >Reply-To: ohallen@rootsweb.com >To: <ohallen@rootsweb.com> >Subject: [OHALLEN] Reply: Miller, Clark, Murphy >Date: Fri, 13 Oct 2006 09:18:04 +0200 > >Dear Kay, > >The earliest Miller I have, is John D. 1. [OHALLEN] Branham family ancestry
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Hello, Just a quick note, in case it might help? The surname BRANHAM in Amherst Co, VA (that is located in Central Virginia) is associated with Native American ancestry. Such as the Monacan tribe. There is a list of Monacan tribe marriages, and many are BRANHAM. This does not mean that all Branham persons were Native Americans, but I just wanted to point this out, in case you had any family stories about "Indian" ancestors. If you need more help on that name, in that location, email me privately. Best regards, Lilly Martin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shirley Palmer" <Shirlronpal@msn.com> To: <ohallen@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 13, 2006 2:52 AM Subject: Re: [OHALLEN] Books I Own > Charlotte, > > My husband has an ancestor, Simeon Branham, who was born in Scott county, > KY > in about 1806. 1. [OHALLEN] Reply: Miller, Clark, Murphy
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Dear Kay, The earliest Miller I have, is John D. Miller, Sr b. 1823 Wurttemberg, he immigrated to America in 1853, and we 'think' he was in PA prior to settling at Lima, OH prior to the 1800 census. We still have no idea WHEN he came to OHIO first, or where he was from 1853 to 1880 census. But he lived at Lima, OH from 1880 to 1902, his death. Wurttemberg is a province in Germany, in 1823 Germany had not been founded yet, it was a 'patch-work-quilt' of small Principalities and such. I feel that the 1849 Revolution in Germany is what caused John D. Miller, sr to leave Germany for America. Miller is such a very common name, that there must be thousands, if not millions?, of immigrants named Miller. Some might be English or Irish, but many will be GERMAN, and the original name might have been MULLER or MUELLER. I still have not found his immigration information, but in one census in Lima, OH he stated he came in 1853, if that is true then his first son John D. Miller Jr b. 1854 Pennsylvania was possibly his FIRST child born in America. But where in PA was he born? I am still trying to find his death record in Oregon, in case his place of birth would be noted on it. Ohio had so many GERMAN families, and many had arrived in OHIO directly from Pennsylvania. I have also studied the GERMAN community in Canton, Stark Co OH, because that was the place they had a German Language newspaper, and many Germans gathered there. I have even had a THEORY that my John Miller, Sr family was living in Paris, Stark Co OH in 1872, based on the fact that my great grandfather was born there, and neither of his parents lived there, so why would his mom leave her home in Salem, OH to go to Paris, Stark Co OH (not too far away) and have her FIRST baby? Was it because she went to her MOTHER's home to have the baby? Ity makes sence, but I have never found the proof, yet. I did write to Stark Co OH authorities, and they said they have no birth record for my Great Grandpa William E. Leach b. 1872 Paris, Stark Co OH (West of Salem, Columbiana Co OH), his mother was Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany, d/o John D. Miller, Sr and Margaret Werner. Also, John D. sounds very ENGL:ISH, and I have thought that the true name was probably Johan Dietrich Miller/Muller/Mueller, or Johannes. I don't have any Clark names, but my Murphy name is: Daniel B. Murphy b. about 1867 OH, married about 1898 to Mary Elizabeth Leach, they lived at 747 Holly st, Lima OH in 1928, and in the 1930 census they lived at 744 S. Metcalf st, Lima, OH and he was a watchman for a Solar Refinery. Mary's parents both died in Lima, OH in 1922 and 1928. 1. [OHALLEN] Fairmount Cemetery, Auglaize Co OH, not far from Lima, OH
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. http://ancestorsatrest.com/cemetery_records/fairmount-cem-ohio.shtml The above website has a list of the names that are buried at Fairmount Cemetery, which is located in Union Twsp, Auglaize Co, OH. This location may contain folks who lived in Lima, Allen Co OH as well, since the location is so close. My own ancestors James A. Leach and his wife Mary E. Miller are buried there. Their daughter Effie Catherine Leach, married to Benjamin O. Lhamon, is also buried there, as are several children of Ben and Effie. If you see this website, it clearly says that these cemetery records can been seen for FREE, however, this is actually a bit of a misleading statement, because to see the list you must first sign up for the FREE 14 day trial at www.ancestry.com first. However, this webpage does list alot of names, and in some cases the first and last name, though most are last name only. So it was helpful to me anyway, with out a fee. If there is anyone who has ancestry.com may I ask for a favor? On this webpage, it stated there are a COLEMAN burial, as well as a MURPHY burial, and a McKINNEY burial. Since many of my relatives are known to be buried there, I am thinking there is a good chance my other relatives are there as well, I would be looking specifically for these names: 1. Helen McKinney and or husband Charles L. McKinney (of Lima) 2. Mary E. Murphy and or husband Daniel B. Murphy (of Lima) 3. Anna Coleman, or or husband Frank Coleman (they had lived at Lorain, OH in 1928) These 3 girls are sisters, and their parents are buried at Fairmount, as well as one other sister, Effie C. Leach Lhamon. I'm thinking there is a very good chance they are buried there as well. Apparently, the Fairmount Cemetery list is available as a database through ancestry.com I would appreciate the look up if possible. Best regards, Lilly Martin

    1. [OHALLEN] John D. Miller family of Lima, OH and Elgin, OR
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. John D. Miller b. 10-9-1824 Wurttemberg, d. 7-29-1902 Perry twsp, (Lima) Allen Co OH. He married Margaret Werner b. 9-6-1821 Wurttemberg, d. 1-21-1905 Perry Twsp (Lima) Allen Co OH. They are buried at St. Paul's Evangelical Cemetery, located at St. John's and Breese Rds. The family story says that John and Margaret, and their daughter Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany, arrived in America in 1853, and first settled in Erie, Erie Co PA, though I have never confirmed this story. I have never found John and Margaret in the 1860, or 1870 census, but I did find their eldest child Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany living in Salem, Columbiana Co OH, as a live in servant. In the 1870 census her brother John D. Miller, Jr b. 1854 PA was living in Youngstown, OH living with his boss's household, he was young and sincle. By 1880 John D. Miller, Sr and wife Margaret are living in Perry Twsp, Lima, OH and John is a Farmer. I have no idea when John arrived in Allen Co OH, but he lived there from at least 1880 to his death. John D. Miller Jr b. 1854 married in Allen Co OH 10-28-1877 to Mary Etta Giberson b. 1856 OH, he father was William M. Giberson of Auglaize Co OH, his father was John Giberson married to Sarah Chiles. John D. Miller Jr's sister Katie Miller b. 1856 PA married John W. Giberson, the son of William Giberson of Auglaize Co OH. John D. Miller Jr's sister Maggie Miller b. 1859 PA or OH, married John Northrup, secondly to George Rice, and thirdly to David Mumaugh. John D. Miller Jr and Mary Etta Giberson had 7 children, and at least one of them was Charles Norvel Miller b. Oct 21, 1885 Lima, OH. I do not know the names of the other 6 children, but by 1900 Mary stated that only 2 of the 7 were still living. Sometime after October 1885, John and Mary and children took the Oregon Trail to La Grande, Union Co OR, and settled in Elgin, Union Co OR. In the 1900 census at Elgin, Union Co OR John D. Miller jr is farming, and his wife Mary and son Charles are with him. I would assume that Charles was the youngest of the 2 remaining children, so they may have a child born from 1878 thru 1884, most likely born in Lima, OH. That child was living separate from them in 1900. Mary Etta Giberson Miller died on August 10, 1905 Union Co OR, her death certificate was #1260. She is probably buried in Elgin, OR. Charles Norvel Miller b. 1885 married first at age 18, that would be approximately 1903, but I do not know the name of the bride, but probably married in Union Co OR. However, by 1910 census he is listed as widowed, so sometime between 1903 and 1910 she died, probably in Union Co, OR. In the 1910 census at North Elgin, OR, John D. Miller, Jr has remarried, to a lady name Edith b. 1883 Iowa, she had previously been marrried to a man named Mr. Accod, also of Iowa, and perhaps he died. She had 2 little sons: Evert Acord b. 1901 Iowa, and Freddie Acord b. 1903 Iowa. John and Edith had a new baby Vivian Miller b. spring of 1910, the baby is listed as a SON. John was working as a watchman at a Saw Mill. Vivian is not the usual name for a male child, but then Marion, Leslie, and Beverly are all Male names used as well, especially in English and Scottish cultures, so either Vivian is a male, or the census taker made a mistake, which is also very common. In the 1910 census at South Elgin, OR Charles Norvel Miller was widowed, and working at a Saw Mill. In the 1920 census at Elgin, OR Charles Norvel Miller has remarried to Alice STEWART, and they have a baby boy named Charles S. Miller born spring of 1920 Oregon. Alice Stewart Miller was born 1885 Nebraska, both her parents were born in Iowa. Charles was farming. In the 1930 census Charles and Alice have moved north to Castle Rock, Cowlitz Co WA and Charles was working there on Railroad Contruction Labor. Their son Charles S. Miller b. 1920 OR was with them, apparently, the only child. We could not find any 1920 or 1930 census for John D. Miller, Jr and second wife Edith, either that moved away, or died? I would love to know more about this Miller line in Oregon and Washington, and if anyone knows more, or is connected, please reply. Best regards, Lilly Martin, d/o Emily Leach, d/o Charles Leach b. 1897 La Grande, OR, s/o William Edgar Leach b. 1872, s/o Mary E. Miller b. 1850 Germany, d/o John D. Miller, Sr and Margaret Werner of Lima, OHIO.
