Surnames: Beiler, Campbell, Lochhead, Starkweather Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.allen/1627/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lima Daily News, March 9, 1910 The remains of the late Rev. JOHN BEILER, pioneer citizen of this county and veteran minister of the gospel who died early Tuesday morning at the home of his son, in Boston, Mass., will be brought to this city for interment. Arrangements are being made to hold funeral services over the remains at Trinity church, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, with the pastor, Dr. T. H. CAMPBELL, presiding. The death of Rev. Mr. BEILER occurred at the home of his son, Dr. S. L. BEILER, Dean of the Boston University Theological School, at whose residence the aged minister had been stopping for some time. Rev. BEILER, came to Allen county when but a boy with his parents in 1833, and the family located in German Township on a farm along Sugar Creek, and there he was raised amid training which developed his mind into religious channels, and he became a minister, supplying pupils of the Methodist church as he was called, but holding no regular charge. His aquaintanceship, was broad, not being confined to the conference in which he was located but all over the field, and his manner both in and out of the pulpit endeared him to those who heard his voice or met him on the common level as a refined and courteous gentleman. Seven years ago his wife died but three sons survive. Rev. S. L. BEILER, dean of the Boston Theological school at whose home he died; CLINTON, who lives near Lima, and E. F. BEILER, of 126 south Elizabeth street. Two sons and two daughters have been numbered with the countless throng, namely, WILLIAM, who was killed during the Civil war, where his father also fought for one year as private in the 151 O. N. G. during '63 and '64; A. C. BEILER, who died at Middlepoint, Van Wert county; Mrs. JESSIE LOCHHEAD, who died in Lima and Mrs. Clara STARKWEATHER, wife of A. STARKWEATHER of Columbus Grove.
