His father was William Akerman from Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. William Henry Akerman was my Great-grandmother's first husband. Her name was Mary Jane Ransbottom and married Nathaniel Hawk after William Henry died. Theres a lot more on Rootsweb.com. Mary Jane Ransbottom was buried in the old cemetery in Lafayette along with William Henry on the Akerman plot. (not with 2nd husband) I came on this due to an entry in my grandmother's bible where she talks about William Henry and his son, Walter. Are you a descendant of this family? Waiting to hear you response. Bob Maus

This particular meeting was commemorating the 100th anniversary of William Akerman settling in Jackson twp., and there was a reading of the "family history." If there are members of this family out there who read this -- could you please let me know -- Have the Akerman family reunions continued through the years? Has anyone maintained the "family history"? What are the family origins? (Pennsylvania? before?) I also notice that William was the administrator of several estates in Jackson twp in the late 1880s and early 1890s -- was this part of his duties as "commissioner"? Any info is welcome.
Have you tried checking with the Library in Defiance? They have a good obituary index and that might be as valuable as the death record. You can reach them on-line. Jeanne

My father's name is Samuel Willis Cullen-married to a woman named Francis till she died in 1974-with a son named Samuel Joseph Cullen---Then dad married my mother-Carolyn Sue Marsh. There were 4 of us from that marriage. We were all born in Allen County, Lima, Ohio. My father died in May 1986 having never told us about his family. I was adopted out in 1988. Yolanda, Thanks very much for your response. I guess I wanted some reassurance. I guess, so far, I've been a bit spoiled by the responses that I've received. :-) I admire your ability using the phone. It seems like such a simple thing, but I've never been very comfortable on the phone which is why I have a tendency to write more letters than anything else. I do believe that I am now entering the phase where I need to use the FHL a bit more than I am. I have some film waiting at my local FHL and have to carve out some time to actually go and use it. :-) Thanks again, Robert Eberhart -----Original Message----- From: Yolanda Campbell Lifter [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 2004 9:38 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Allen Cty List] Allen County Death Certificate Advice Be patient, I've waited up to six months for replies from various organizations. : ) I usually call the office before I mail in a request and ask for their fee schedule (and how they would like to receive payment-cash, check, or money order) and policy and always send a SASE. Philip Rhodes a resident of Hume departed this life at the home of his parents, Mr. & Mrs George Rhodes who reside near the Lutheran Church near Cridersville....... Mr. Rhodes death occurred just four days after that of his wife, formerly Miss Odessa Treece, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Simon Treece. Both were ill with influenza and pneumonia set in causing death of both husband & wife. Mr. Rhodes grew to manhood in the vicinity of Cridersville and was united in marriage with Miss Odessa Treece in 1912. They resided in Muncie Ind. for a few years and one year ago bought a home near Hume. There seems to be a connection here somehow. The Hume cemetery I believe is actually St.Matthews Lutheran Cemetery. It is located on Hume road. Philip was my grandmother's brother. Their mother's family lived behind the church from 1836 to just a couple of years ago. I will try to do some investigating and see if I might turn up something. I do have a memory card for Philip & Odessa that I could send via the computer if you are interested. It has their photos on it.

(b.1821). I have some circumstantial evidence that their son William is one of my grandfathers, but I am not certain. My g-g-g grandfather William Ludwig married Anne Jemima Webber in Pike Co., OH (just south of Pickaway) in 1842. They had at least 2 sons (George W. and William) before 1850 but I cannot positively find any of the family until Anne Jemima Ludwig and her two sons appear in the 1870 census after William has presumably died or divorced. I cannot find him in either the 1850 or 1860 Census. However, a George Ludwig, age 16, was living with George Crites and the above mentioned (widowed and now remarried) Mary Elizabeth Fink Ludwig Crites in Pickaway Co., Oh in the 1860 Census. G.W. (George Washington) Ludwig, my g-g grandfather was in the Ohio 58th Infantry out of Pickaway County in the Civil War (Company I, which formed the day before his 18th birthday, October 30, 1861) so I assume this is likely the same George Ludwig of the 1860 Census of the same county (He had not yet turned 17 at the time of that Census). I speculate that William Ludwig died before 1850 and that his son George went to live with his grandmother Mary E. Fink Ludwig Crites. What I don't know is any details about Jacob Ludwig and Mary E. Fink's son William. When was he born? Where is he buried? The other three children of Jacob and Mary moved to Allen Co., OH, but I can find no information about William. Can anyone help?
