Hi Karen M, Somehow your email to me about Charles Doute went off into the netherworld..... I had clicked the link to Ancestry and viewed the obituary, but I cannot find your message -- it's not in the in-box or in the trash. I attempted to write to your 'old' email address, but it came back...... write me again, please. The message you sent had a citation for the obituary, and the Ancestry page in the link didn't show the citation. I'd like that citation, plus I'd like to renew our correspondence!!!! Wayne-st and N. Park-av, a beautiful burial plot 75 years ago but of recent years in a sad state of disrepute may soon pass away to make way for a factory. A proposal to disinter approximately 1200 bodies for re-burial elsewhere, presented by the cemetery trustees, George METHEANY, Clint HOVER and M.A. ATMUR has been approved by the surgeon-general of the United States, it was made known Thursday. The long abandoned city of the dead contains the bodies of about 60 persons who succumbed to cholera back in 1851. Others buried there died during smallpox epidemics in 1871. Many veterans of the War of 1812 and the Civil war are buried in the old grave yard. Among Lima's illustrious pioneers whose bodies were laid away in the cemetery are Major General William J. BLACKBURN, who was buried in May 1858, with impressive rites and full military honors. Many of the gravestones in the abandoned grave yard have toppled over and vandals have descrated the cemetery in numberous ways. H.F. WEBB, 1430 Wendell-av, left for Broken Arrow, Okla., to attend the funeral service of his mother Mrs. T.D. WEBB, who died early Thursday at her home in that city. Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be made in the Oklahoma city. Miss Velma RHODES, 27, housekeeper, of Continental, and Ervin ALBRECHT, 23, farmer of Rantoul, Ill., have been granted a license to wed in Defiance, according to word which has been received here. Damage estimated at more than $3,500, was caused by fire which yesterday destroyed the residence on the Roy PICKERING farm, three miles south of Kenton on the Mt. Victory-pk. The blaze, believed to have started from a defective flue or an overheated stove, was first discovered by Gus DETWILER and Joe HOOVER, working nearby. Members of the Hobart LADY family, living on the PICKERING farm, were away from home at the time. Although a general alarm was sent out and volunteer fire fighting brigades formed by neighboring farmers, the flames had gained too great a headway to be extinguished. Only a part of the household furnishings could be dragged to safety. Several nearby buildings were saved from catching fire by the prompt action of the volunteers. The loss is only partially covered by insurance. Services for Miss Mary WILSON, 20, daughter of the late G.B. WILSON, were held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church. Despite the extreme cold weather, the auditorium was filled for the rites. The Rev. William PRICE, of Findlay, and the Rev. C.E. BULEN, the latter pastor of the Methodist Protestant church of Gilboa, officiated at the services. Interment was made in Harmon cemetery, beside the grave of her father, who died seven weeks ago. Miss WILSON, died at the home of her brother, Charles WILSON, 522 S. Oak-st., Ottawa. At her request she was taken to his home last Friday. The body was removed Tuesday afternoon, following death, to the home of her mother in Gilboa.

1. I'm seeking information about Lawrence O'Neill (b ca 1851) and his wife Laura Mumaugh (b ca 1853). They were married in Lima at the RC church on 2 or 3 July 1874, and the 1880 census shows them with 3 children: Alice, Esther, and Mary. After the 1880 census they seem to have dropped off of the face of the earth. I found an index in the Allen Co Museum the last time I was there, listing: There is an obituary for a Lawrence O'Neill buried in Gethsemani Cemetery in the Lima Times Democrat for Saturday 28 March 1903. That Lawrence was 36 years of age in 1903, making his birth date approximately 1867, which is too late to be this same Lawrence. His siblings were named in the obituary: H. J., Michael, Sam, John, Andrew, and sister, Mrs. Margaret Stevens. He was survived by a wife and 3 children residing in Crossley block on South Main near Spring (wife and children were not named). There was also an index listing for a Larry O'Neill in 3-26-1894, paper not indicated, event not indicated. I was unable to locate this cited article, but I only checked one newspaper. 2. I'm also seeking information about Laura Mumaugh O'Neill's sister, Sarah. Here is the little I know of her: Sarah Mumaugh b ca 1858 married about 1894 in Allen Co to Charles Doute/Dovute. He was apparently married previously as there were children in the 1900 census who were born before 1894. I found Charles and Sarah living in Lima for the 1910 census, but not in subsequent census records. Suggestions? Sarah and Laura were the daughters of William Mumaugh and Rebecca Binkley. Can anyone help with these families? Thanks! Ellen

Lima Times Democrat, Dec 1, 1904 Ruth, the eight months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seymour WHITE, of 801 east High street, died at 8 o'clock this morning from pneumonia, after ten days' illness. The remains were taken to Anna, O., this evening and interment will occur there. Ed STUBER, of Piper's grocery, spent Sunday with his folks in Sidney. Mrs. James LEWIS, of south Main street, has returned from an extended visit in Sandusky and Cleveland. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. DeVOE have returned from Oil City, and are again at their home on Greenlawn avenue. Frank STILSON has taken a chair at Lutz's barber shop. O.M. THOMAS left this morning over the Pennsylvania for San Francisco, where he was called by former Supt. John PAGE, of the Indiana field for the Buckeye Pipe Line Co. Mr. THOMAS will accept a position offered him and make his home in the metropolis of the Pacific coast. Mr. T.A. YOUNG, 217 east O'Connor avenue, who has been down with typhoid malaria for the past two weeks is gaining and hopes to be out in about a week at his old stand in the C.H. & D. shops. Misses Mary and Margaret VEASCY, spent Sunday with friends in Cincinnati. Thomas MILET, of Detroit, spent Sunday with his daughter, Sister Mary CARMEL, of St. Rose school. Miss Anna MOORE has gone to Chicago to visit friends. She will also visit in St. Louis while absent. Thomas SHRIDER has purchased the George KAH saloon on south Main street. Mrs. John MARTIN, of south Main street, is visiting her sister in Findlay. C.W. BURKHARDT, a brother of Passenger Agent Frank BURKHARDT, of the C.H. & D. and E.& W. lost a valuable barn by fire Tuesday evening, but neighbors arrived in time to save the house and rescue the live stock of which there was considerable. For a time it looked as though the whole country round about would be swept by a conflagration. The wind blew the flames in great sheets across the fields, burning up considerable dry fodder and fences. The direction of the wind saved Mr. BURKHARDT's home and other buildings, but the barn, which was one of the largest in the county, is a total loss. It was valued at $2,000, and well insured. Mr. BURKHARDT, who is Mayor of Cridersville, lives about a mile and a half from the town, but at the time of the fire was in Lima on business. The fire was seen for miles and farmers from every direction to assist in getting it under control. Over a hundred rigs of every description were hitched to the fence at a safe distance and the owners formed a fire brigade that did effective work in the way of rescue. Sorrow two-fold has cast a shadow of gloom over the ROBINSON home on east Kibby street, and two members of the family has to the great beyond. Tuesday evening a message was received by Mrs. Elizabeth ROBINSON, announcing the death of her husbands' mother, Mrs. Mary ROBINSON at Ottawa, from heart trouble. Yesterday while making preparations to attend her mother-in-law's funeral, Mrs. ROBINSON received another message bearing the sad news of her husband's death, at the state hospital at Toledo. The husband Thomas ROBINSON, was about 58 years old and had been an inmate of the hospital since the third of last August. He is survived by the wife and five children- Misses Nettie, Mary and Emma, of this city; Harvey ROBINSON of St. Louis, and Owen ROBINSON, of Philadelphia. The funeral of mother and son will be held tomorrow morning at Ottawa. Bessie MURPHY, was arrested again last night, by officer GRANT, and today goes to the Toledo work house to serve a thirty day and $10 and cost sentence recently suspended by the mayor pending good behavior. She couldn't stay away from wine rooms. Mrs. Ed BLANK and children, of east Linden street, left last evening for Florida, to spend the winter. John GORHAM, of west Kibby street is being visited by William SMITH, of Celina. Mrs. George DANIELS, of south West street, is entertaining her mother, Mrs. Jacob FETTER, of Butler, Ind. The "closed indefinitely" sign has been taken down from the door of the south side bank. All you can see now is furniture and an electric light. The sidewalks on both sides of the Main street bridge are in very bad shape- rotten boards, holes large enough for a child to break a leg in and blocks nailed down in such a manner as to cause many to stub their toes. Prompt attention to the defects may save the city a damage suit, as there are plenty of people looking for easy money.
