    1. Native Americans in Allen Co., 1850s-1870s
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DILTZ, DILTS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZYB.2ACI/735 Message Board Post: I have what might be an unusual question. Has anyone ever heard about native americans taking children for a day and then returning them to their home in the evenings, on a recurring basis? I have a David Harrison DILTZ, born June 1851 in Allen Co., Ohio. He lived and died in Allen County. David’s great-granddaughter, my husband's grandmother, says she remembers her mom telling her stories about her Great-Grandpa David Diltz. According to the stories, when David was a young child, he would occasionally be taken by the local Indians for a day and then returned in the evenings. Apparently the Indians liked him and they had a good relationship. First of all, what Indian tribes would have been around in the area between 1851 and 1870? But second, and more importantly, does anyone have any idea if this kind of thing was common or could be confirmed? Even if all someone can tell me is what Indians tribes were in the area, that'd be great. Thank you very much. Erin
