KY by the following source. This area possibly needed more PR at the time if it were indeed settled prior to 1792 as most of the other referenced stations were. Has anyone found land records for your ancestors on "the waters of Locust Creek" in the 1790's? Neil McDonald For Val McDaniel-McDonald, he likely came downriver with the ALEXANDER BUCHANAN Sr colony and lived a mile west of GERMANTOWN. And,from his move to s BROWN CO,OH he became neighbors in s OHIO OF FEAGAN'S STATION people. But,the COLLINS of Maysville ,and SPENCER RECORDS, and ARTHUR FOX'S will "History of Maysville and MASON CO," mention LEE'S CREEK STATION at DOVER ,ky, WHICH WAS,SAY 3 miles from where VAL settled in Ohio. Then there is possible settlement in the CHARLESTOWN bottoms oppisite RIPLEY. DR TALLEY, the COLLIN'S say "SEVERAL BLOCKHOUSES built by SIMON KENTON." Let's call the KENTON'S blockhouse a mile west of Concord,Ky one of those "several". I could be easily convinced any blockhouse just west of Vanceburg,on Quick's Run,was another. Easiest thing I could find to research was a paperback copy of "THE FRONTIERSMAN" I see SIMON KENTON once lived on a 2ND Quick's Run near Harrodsburg, 1782. [unless he was a neighbor of KENNEDY]. I see the blockhouse mentioned by Isreal DONALDSON -EARLY 1791- fits with the SCIOTO capture of GREATHOUSE,HUBBARD, etc,and of the army from MASON gong up-river.Eckart SAID "Over 200 men rode up the KY side of the Ohio under COL A.D.ORR-Records reported on this movement. The militia spoke with 2 settlers-GEORGE EDWARDS and THOMAS MARSHAL. The militia also encountered 2 men encamped near the THREE ISLANDS-Manchester and Kenton's blockhouse were near 3 islands. David Thomas and Peter Devine-the 2 that lured JOHN MAY,et al's flatboats ashore. ALSO, 3 flatboats with 100 men went up-river under RANKIN. >From Collins Historical Sketches of Kentucky, History of Kentucky, Volume 2, published by Collins & Co, Covington, KY, 1874: (In the general area of present Mason Co. KY.) BAILEY'S STATION: Mason County, 2 1/2 miles south of Maysville, one mile from Washington;1791. BOSLEY'S STATION: 3/4 mile above the main fork of Well's Creek, near Washington, Mason county, before 1793. BUCHANAN'S STATION: One mile west of Germantown, Bracken County, where Geo HUMLONG recently lived. The Alexander Buchanan Sr colony,ex of Georges Twnsp,Fayette Co,Pa, would move,1795-96 winter 5 miles north of MOSCOW,Clermont Co,Oh where the BUCHANAN cemetary became old Calvery methodist cem. Alex JR M A SELLERS,so was a bro-in-law of Capt SPENCER RECORDS brother,LABAN, and of the LOWE'S. (Hermon, the stations listed here were mostly settled pre-1792, so it seems very likely that Buchanan's was included in this time frame -- re: question as to whether this area of present Bracken Co. area was possibly not settled until after 1792. This question was posed by Spencer Records info concerning a bridle path being cut in 1792 for a road from Washington, KY to a point opposite Cincinnati. I believe the Spencer brothers were cutting a new "main" road for commerce with the Cincinnati area, while a few paths or roads already existed in the Mason-Bracken area. The Spencer note "40 miles of unbroken forest" was likely intended for the area west of that already settled in Mason-Bracken.) BYNE'S STATION: Settled by Edmund BYNE, on North Fork, in Mason County. CLARK'S STATION: Mason County; 1785. CURTIS' STATION: Mason Co. FEAGAN'S STATION: Mason Co, 1 1/2- 2 miles east of Germantown. FLORER'S STATION: On the middle trace from Maysville to Lexington; 1792. KENTON'S STATION: 3 miles southwest of Limestone (now Maysville), about one mile north of Washington in Mason Co; settled by Simon KENTON, 1784. KENTON'S (John) STATION: 1/2 mile southeast of Washington, Mason Co. KENTON'S (Simon) STATION: Several blockhouses built by Simon KENTON, who brought his father's family from PA (via flatboat, departed at Brownsville, PA), and remained with them until July, 1784. LEACH'S STATION: Bracken Co.Does anyone know the slightest thing of this fort? Was it really Leitch's Station 6 miles se of Cincinnati on the Licking that became the land speculator Col Taylor's thru his marrying Leitch's widow? LEE'S STATION: Mason Co, between Maysville and Washington; settled by Gen Henry LEE, 1785. Do not confuse LEE'S STATION S MAYSVILE,with LEES CREEK STATION,Dover,ky 10 miles west. LEWIS' STATION: Re-settled by Geo LEWIS in 1789, formerly called Geo CLARK'S STATION, at present Lewisburg, Mason Co., 9 miles from Maysville. LIMESTONE: Later renamed Maysville, see below. MANCHESTER or MASSIE'S STATION: 12 miles above Maysville on the north bank of Ohio River at the THREE ISLANDS. They farmed the islands MAYSVILLE: On the Ohio River, at the mouth of Limestone Creek, Mason Co, settled 1784, blockhouse built by Edward WALLER, John WALLER and George LEWIS of Virginia. (Maysville was named for William May, brother of John May, after the town had been known as Limestone.) Where is the MAYS LICK settlement of SHOTWELL,MORRIS,DRAKE,1786? MEREFORD'S (George) STATION: 2 1/4 miles south of Maysville, Mason Co, 1787. STROUD'S STATION (STRODE?): Mason Co., on North Fork of Licking at mouth of Stroud's Run, 1785. WARING'S STATION: Mason Co, about two miles from Maysville, just west of Lexington Turnpike; settled Feb. 1785 by Col Thomas WARING. Roger W Waring was a pioneer,1796,of WILLIAMSBURG,Oh. WASHINGTON: Mason Co, 3 1/2 miles southwest of Maysville; settled by Simon Kenton by 1784; laid out as a town in 1786 by Rev. Wm WOOD and Arthur FOX, Sr. Arthur FOX'S LEE'S CREEK STATION,Dover,ky. HB FAGLEY If Manchester counts, then RICHARD GRAHAM's station on the river, east of Concord,ky, n Lewis co,should be mentioned. What was meant by the COLLINS writing "the middle trace" from MAYSVILLE TO LEXINGTON? i'LL GUESS THE EASTERN trace went via the UPPER BLUR LICKS,THE MIDDLE TRACE BY THE LOWER BLUE LICKS. That leaves a trace HB FAGLEY ==== KYMASON Mailing List ==== List problems? First, read the Welcome Message that you received when you subscribed.
