    3. With reference to an earlier posting concerning lands of Valentine McDaniel-McDonald, Val and his second wife, Sarah (JONES, widow), sold his land in Section #1033 (near Ripley) for $950 on 18 July 1833 to Samuel MATHERS. Witnesses were Val's son-in-law, John H. BLAIR, and Wm. MATHERS. Per survey description, this 111 acres bordered that of James WILLIAMS, Thomas McCONNELL and LAYCOCK's Old Line. Val (at age 72) and Sarah, on 31 March 1832 for $650, purchased 144 acres from George and Polley ARCHER, in Section #641 which is primarily in present Brown Co. but which runs into or borders Adams Co. Section #641 is the first section north of Section #999 (the latter encompasses present Decatur, OH); an error on the 1876 Brown Co. Atlas incorrectly identifies Section #641 as #884. Section #641 was surveyed on Military Warrant #688 in 1792 for Lt. Col. Samuel HOPKINS, consisting of 1400 acres, patented 1796 as part of the Virginia Military District. Residences on the 1876 map identifies G. BICKER, A. PITTENGER (3 different residences), J. M. RUTHERFORD, G. N. PICKERELL, Jr., J. CARLSON, Wm. A. GRIMES, Jno. SMITH, A. M. KIRKPATRICK and E. TACKER as living within this section at this later date. Val and Sarah's property was described as being on the waters of Eagle Creek, Section #641 would be on the East Fork of Eagle Creek or Rattlesnake Run if my map-names are correct. Valentine (at age 82) and Sarah sold 1/3 acre of this land (for $1 total) to the Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) Church on 18 March 1842; church trustees were John MAHAFFEY (McAffee?), Jarmiah Petihener (PETINGER), Casper B. WOODS, Wm. QUARRY and Westley Petihemer (PETINGER.) Val and Sarah sold 2-1/2 acres to Casper B. WOODS on 9 June 1842 for $16, witnesses were George L. CALVERT and Lorenzo Dowe McDANIEL (grandson of Valentine, who lived with Val after his father, Reazin, died.) Valentine died on this land in 1845. Subsequent joint-owners were Wm. PETTINGER and John D. WHITE, in 1849. I would greatly appreciate anyone passing along information to me concerning the M.E. Church which was apparently built on this land north of Decatur, OH in 1842 -- at least where it may have been located and whether a cemetery exists. (Although Valentine and Sarah McD were likely Presbyterian, I doubt they traveled to Red Oak Church for services in their later years.) Other info concerning any connections would be nice as well, I enjoy sharing info. Neil McDonald
