Dear Researchers of the Adams County, Ohio Mailing List, All of the PENNYWITT men of Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio were large and muscular, and their combined strength doubtless exceeded that of any other family of equal numbers in southern Ohio. As to their physical development the PENNYWITTs constituted perhaps the most remarkabler family that Adams County has produced, delighting in feats of strength. John PENNYWITT was a giant in stature and could carry two barrels of flour at once, one under each arm. So wrote Evans and Stivers in their 1900 History. Reuben PENNYWITT, born 31 May 1817 on Gift Ridge, Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio, married Miss Jane COOPER of Brown County, Ohio, 3 Apr 1839. Jane COOPER PENNYWITT was born Sept 1816 and was still living in 1900. Can you help me learn more about her? Mark PENNYWITT married Sarah COOPER. One of their children was Wiley Daniel PENNYWITT, who was born 26 Sep 1861, three miles above Manchester, in Adams County. Mark PENNYWITT died 18 Jun 1885, in Adams County. If you are researching the PENNYWITT surname [with its variant spellings of PENNYWEIGHT, PENNIWIT, PENNYWAITE, PENEWAIT, BENNYWITT, etc.], or, better, if you can help me identify the parents of Jane COOPER and Sarah COOPER, please contact me, either privately or via the List. I will be grateful for any help received. Thank you, and I wish you much success in your own research, as well! Randal W. Cooper Lorain, Ohio
