Very mis-named title of Chalkely's Cronicles of the Scotch -Irish in Augusta Co,Va" might be keeping some of you from a most valuable resource. 1 ,It's Clalkley's abstracts of the records found in the court house at Staunton,Augusta Co,Va. Maybe [?] 50% of the people mentioned are Scotch-Irish. I suppose the dates are 1740's-1800. Fine,you say,I didn't have anybody in Augusta Co,Va. But it was once huge. 1775 it included sw Pa and Pittsburg. Vol 2 is ,in part, Va District court land suits,whose records were stored in that courthouse. Va "DISTRICT" Court land suits of 1740's-1800 ! The state of WV was formed,in large part,from that "DISTRICT"!. My people were involved in a squabble over land in 1773 on the Ohio RIVER WV northern panhandle-Weirton WV- that resulted in a 1798 "DISTRICT" LAND COURT suit, and,1798, my people,then at Boonesboro,Ky, gave recorded depositions! Hundreds of miles between Staunton,Va,Weirton,WV,AND BOONESBORO,KY ,PLUS 25 years. Chalkley's Cronicles are on-line, in part,or in total. I used them last year daily for a couple months on www.ancestry.com as a duespaying member. Volunteer's are posting the data found on usgenweb.com and they have feelings like anybody. I was searching for a book named [roughly]" "40,000 convicts from 500 ships sold on the Chesapeke" OR 50,000 on 400 ships,or similar. Anyway,I set the state,in turn, for MD,VA,PA,DE,NC,GA,SC.CT, and searched for the word convict, and then convicts,with almost no hits,and at least 1\2 were in the Augusta Co Va records. Had searched for Loyalist and TORY wife not many hits. Anyway,in your search for ancestors, remember the D.A.R. was not for everybody. And not many got off the boat as Royalists escaping CROMWELL,1640-60 IN ENGLAND. Puritan's had been jailed; Quaker's had been jailed; and we were England's penal colony til 1776. Australia replaced us. Not to mention all the slaves,endentured servants, P.O.W,'s and convicts. I'm twice from Dugal McQueen,sold at Baltimore in 1716 after being deported as a P.O.W. captured in battle.
