Christine: My family came from Shenandoah County, VA after 1816 and before 1820. They first settled in Brush Creek Twp., Highland Co., but several members moved to Adams County. My gggg grandmother, Mary Sprinkle, was widowed in Shenandoah County, VA in about 1814. She showed up on the Shenandoah Co. Personal Property Tax Lists in 1814, 1815, and 1816. Then she disappears until appearing on the 1820 census in Highland County, Ohio. We feel she must have come with family or close friends. It doesn't seem likely a widow with 10 children ranging in age from age 2 to 22, would make that journey without knowing others at her destination. Several of her children, including my ancestor, David Sprinkle, settled in Adams County. David lived in Jacksonville, Meigs Twp., and then moved down to near Rome (Stout), Green Twp., where he died in 1876. The Sprinkles were of German descent and originally Lutheran. Margaret
