The David Bradford in West Union came from PA (? or VA (?). According to a book in the West Union Public Library, "Historical Sketch of Adams County, OH", David was one of two brothers. They were orphans after their mother and father died and were left with a family in either PA or VA. David came to Adams Co and settled on Brush Creek. In 1801 he moved to West Union when the town was laid out. His wife was Barbara Grimes and they are buried at the rear of their homestead in West Union, according to records at the Adams Co. Historical Society. David was treasurer of Adams Co. from 1801 until 1831. He built the first hotel in West Union, called Bradford's Tavern. He started building it in 1804 and it was opened in 1806. West Union is near the path of the old Zane Trace trail and so at least 2 US presidents stayed there. That building is still standing today and is called the Wayside Inn. I have eaten lunch there. The last time we were in West Union, a few months ago, it was closed. I do not know if that was a temporary or permanent closing. David and Barbara had two sons, David and Samuel. David's brother, William, also came to Adams Co. but it was later, about 1817 or 1819. He was married to Margaret Parkinson. They had 12 children, one of whom was named David, so you see that there were several Davids in the area. That is probably more than you asked for. If you want further details feel free to e-mail me.
