I remembered the name while collecting information on my gggfather and ggfather for the application to the Society of Civil War Families of Ohio; I read a letter from John McCoy Sr. from Pittsburgh Landing (20 March 1862) which mentions;" the Bradfords sons and Arron Watsons boys are in the enjoymnet of good health". John Sr. was in Co. H, 70th OVI. This leads me to believe that he knew neighbors from the Adams Co. area. John Jr. was in Co. F, 3rd. OVI. They were living in Sprigg Twn. during the war. John Sr. Died April 6, 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh. John Jr. lived to muster out with his company in 1864, He was married to Margaret McElmurray. I do not know the exact date of their marriage. Their frist 4 children were born in Sprigg Twn. or Manchester, with William Wallace McCoy born 09 July 1864 (fist child) I know the dates of birth due to obits and death certs. They were then thought to have moved to Portsmouth by 1870-71 according to city directories. If anyone has any information on this Irish family. I would appreciate it.. Especially due to the lose of records by fire in West Union.
