My Adams Co ancester, Daniel Matheny, was there before Statehood in 1803. This is why I read posts even when the name has nothing to do with the ones I am researching, you never know when those names will show up connected to your own. I am descended from the Grooms and Freelands but the Shanks and Satterfields are collateral lines to the Grooms. This gives me another place to start looking. Sandy
