I'm actually looking for an obit. on Wilson Grooms, died 9-1-1917 (Ohio death Index), Martin Vanburen Grooms, died 9-29-1923 (Ohio Death Index) and Serena,Sereana Grooms, nee Pence, died 8-25-1909 (forget where I got that death date). All died in Adams Co. My Great,great grandfather, John Grooms' death cert states that Wilson Grooms and Sereana Pence are his parents, HOW-EVER, in 1880 Census John (age 15)is in household of Vanburen and Serena Grooms. Wilson is married to a Nancy (Copas?)I'm trying to figure which of the men are actually his father. Hopefully an obit may tell me. There is also an Alfred Grooms (believed to be Johns brother) that died July 26, 1939 Adams Co. Nikki
If you haven't had an asnwer to this question, you might check another way. Consider checking out the Pence websites by Richard Allen Pence. He might have Serena in her birth family with correct information about her husband and children. Death certificates are less reliable due to the data having been reported by some one who may not really know correct information. Obits can likewise be faulty. I would be more likely to trust the census.
