Surnames: Classification: census Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.adams/3570.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This isn't very well checked on my part, so may be wrong, but I'm showing a John Copas (b. 1783 VA d. before 1860 Adams County, OH) who married Elizabeth Grooms (b. 1786 Berkley County, West Virginia d. After 1870) who were married 29 Dec 1804 in Adams County, Va. I show their children as: Rebecca (1820) James (1832) Malinda (1833) Mary (1835) Harriet (1836) Nancy (1841) I don't have a Abraham Copas, but I do show Abraham Grooms as Elizabeth's father... Checking a transcribed copy of the 1850 Census I find them in Jefferson Township with the last name misspelled as COPES (don't know if it's in the census that way or it's a transcription error). Their census entry shows all of the people I listed above. Two entries down I find a Abraham COPES (37), Hannah (33), and John(12). Right in the same area I also see a John COPES (35) and his family as well as a Issac COPES (22) and his family. There were some others listed in that township as well.
