I would second this. I know that my ancestors had a deep suspicion of the government and really weren't all that happy about giving the government any information they didn't feel it needed. Matter of fact we're still like that today <g>... Information on a census may have felt "intrusive" to your relatives and they may have just given whatever they felt like at the time.
