Still do not know parents of William and Ruth. Shirley Ramsey has some speculation. William was a farmer and then a carpenter according to census records. He served in the 182 Regiment of Ohio in the Civil War. Helped build forts etc. You are the first descendent of Charlotte of whom I am aware. I have had exchanges with Shirley and one or two others. I don't know when Ruth died. Someone who has seen the grave should be able to answer that. Bill Bradford Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There are various twists on the story and it's difficult to say what is fact and what is fiction but it does seem plausible that Penelope did survive an Indian attack in what is now New Jersey ca. 1643. Also, if you have access to Heritage Quest, the computer based genealogical program, at your public library you will find several references to Penelope Stout in a number of books. Here's the children of Moses B. Stout b. 11/20/1829 and d. 6/12/1902 and his wife, Nancy Parker b. 3/4/1831 and d. 11/4/1906 (m. ca. 1853 in Adams Co., OH): 1. I do have Moses B. Stout in my files but no wife or her ancestry either. In the dim recollections of my memory, I remember something about Penelope and the survival of an Indian attack but I do not have hard copy of that information. My cousin, Tom Adloff, (now deceased) told me some stories but I didnt write them down. Tom Adloff was the son of Parker Adloff and Ocie Stout, daughter of Peyton Stout and Louisa (Louella) Moore. Peyton Stout was the son of David Sanford Stout and Nancy Cole. David Sanford Stout was the son of James Stout and Mary Shumate. James was the son of Jesse Stout and Rebecca Morrison. I have no more to add. Tom's father was Adam D. Adloff and Amanda Parker. I descend from Adam D. Adloff's youngest sister, Elizabeth Adloff who married Andrew Jackson Gunter at Stout's Run in 1879. I would love to have the stories in my files, as well as a bit of descendancy from Moses B and Nancy Parker Stout. So nice to hear from you. If anyone out there has any knowledge of this name I would love to hear about it and suggestions are welcome. I am looking for any info on my GGgrandfather whose, I believe due to the info that I have found and has been sent to me, last name is BEDTHIJA. His son, my Ggrandfather Charles Bedthija Smith, was born in Indiana and died in Illinois and Charles daughter-Zetta Ann SMITH YORK, my grandmother, was born in Illinois and died in Illinois. I believe his last name is BEDTHIJA and that he came from Germany and possibly returned to Germany. I am listing all info, and a couple of stories, that I have on his child/children. I have nothing on him. It seems that my Ggrandfather-Charles was kept at a distance with his grandchildren, my mother and aunt does not remember much about him and they were not allowed to visit him even though he lived within visiting range. My mother and aunt said that there mother-Zetta was never told anything about her grandparents-Charles parents. So whats the Hush-Hush all about? 1st Story: My sister remembers our grandmother, Zetta Ann SMITH YORK, telling her about a grandfather, she does not remember if she specified which grandfather, that came from Germany married a Native American (this part I question but she swears that is how she remembers the story) had child/children wife died and the grandfather not being able to speak much English returned to Germany. Marriage Record in Vermillion Co., Indiana: Book 7 page 119 list groom-BERTHIJA, Chalres (exact spelling probably a typo) bride-HURST, Minnie A. date-April 5, 1896. I am not able to access the census right now, but did find some info that indicates the Daniel in the 1860 census was married in 1809 and his first child born that year. The Daniel I am searching would have had a child born about 1807. I don't have birth info on any others. I will continue to look at the Daniel you mentioned. At this time I do not have any information about the generations of Dodges in Ohio after 1820. I traced back to Daniel from a descendent who left Ohio in the 1820's. As I research, if I find any connections to the Hazelbaker family, or Hiram Dodge born about 1867, I will pass it on to you. Good luck with your research. Please write if you have any further ideas. The information I have is from the 1820 US census: Daniel DODGE Ohio, Adams County, Sprigg Males in family: (110001) to 10 yrs. one 10-16 one 45 and up one Females in family: (11101) to 10 yrs. one 10-16 one 16-26 one 45 and up one I have not been able to find any other information about this family other than the 1820 census data. I could not find Daniel DODGE in the 1830 census. Since his age is 45 and up, I wonder if he died in the 1820's. Does anyone have information on this Dodge family who lived in Adams Co, Sprigg? Maybe someone has them in their family tree? Or maybe saw the name on a headstone at a cemetery? I would especially like to know where they came from, the names of the family members, or a death date for Daniel and his wife. I would appreciate any help or research ideas anyone could give me. Thank you. JJ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He married Anna Hawk, who died in 1829 in Adams County. I have no knowledge of any descendants. But I know a few things about his ancestors. He was born in 1765 as Henry Brower or Hendrick Brouwer in New York, and is descended from one of the first Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam (now New York City). Parents were Abraham Brouwer and Mary Wiltse/Wiltze (spelling variants exist -- don't sweat them. They were common among persons of Dutch and French Huguenot ancestry in New Amsterdam/New York in the presence of the English. BROUWER generally became BROWER or BREWER at the time of the American Revolution as the early Dutch and the English assimilated. He was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, according to the Daughters of the American Revolution, so anyone who can prove descent from him can claim him as a qualification for membership. Desendants could conceivably have taken the surname BREWER. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
